Pizza

As I was enjoying a Papa Murphy's Pizza De-lite I thought of my WLS friends.  When I was past liquids and safely into eating I discovered the De-lite Pizza.  I always hesitate to suggest anyone try a food.  I was very tolerant of pretty much everything and would feel really bad it my idea made someone miserable.  Having said that......I found this to be a way to really have the pizza experience I longed for and yet staying pretty darn close to the no bread zone.  I would order the veggie De-lite (plus onions) and found that the wafer thin crust gave me the crunch I wanted and I got protein from the cheese.  Now they have three new chicken combos that are great.  I know chicken is a bad subject for many, but if not than it's even more of a protein source with meat and cheese.  I was just not happy with doing the pizza toppings with no crust.  Those little toasts would be good though.  I can and do enjoy regular pizza at this point, but I like the De-lite enough to have it over the regular crust sometimes.  I did have to add my own chopped tomato (it makes the experience) because of the big tomato recall. Who needs to cook in summer? Patty

Patty - I make pizza frequently, using the Mission Low-Carb tortillas from the grocery store.  Michelle (Eggface) on the main board suggested these.  I use the fajita size when I can get them, put a little pasta sauce on (I use Barilla which is low to no sugar and fat), then some cheese and whatever topping I care for.  Then I bake it at 400* for about 10-12 minutes.  Great crunchy crust and great toppings.  Really good non-greasy pizza.  Ya gotta love it. I also like to make a quesadilla but I use corn tortillas.  I'd make a little quacoamole and salsa to put on top - later on added a scrambled egg to the plate for more protein.   I don't get low carb ones because I guess I have never counted carbs.    Obviously, I'm a Mexican food lover.  This week we're going to a Quinceanera for our dear friends daughter in Phoenix.  I know my family (including me) is looking forward to whatever Abuela is cooking.  The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the heat.  I was POSITIVE the venue would be air conditioned.  I found out it is being held at a ranch outside.  It was about 113 degrees yesterday.  I'm downgrading my hair and makeup plans and I'm glad pantyhose are out of style!  Patty

That sounds good too Patty.  I don't count carbs, I just try to look for the healthiest version of whatever item I'm buying and I have to be very careful because lots of wraps or tortillas are made with soy these days and I am very allergic.  Oh yum - I can imagine you are in for some good food.  I used to work in a camp for migrant farm workers and got lots of authentic Mexican food -- I love it so much.  I hope the heat wave dies down before you get there! I substitute a lot of my nutrisystem meals with other low-cal foods, especially if I need to eat out. I usually do a lot of turkey or chicken style sandwiches from Subway. I sometimes substitute the southwest sauce, mayo, or honey mustard for regular mustard &/or vinegar. It seems like I don't notice as much at that restaurant because they put so many juicy veggies on. During the tomatoe crisis LOL, the sandwiches just weren't the same. I'm learning to appreciate more natural foods during my weightloss period before surgery. I know what you mean about having to have tomatoes on your pizza or any other food. During part of my childhood I grew up near tomato farms. Some neighborhood friends would go out to the tomatoe fields with salt shakers. Some tomatoe farmers would bring us huge bags of them. We would make refreshing tomatoe sandwiches in the summer! Also, my sister who isn't involved with WLS, but diets frequently raves about those low-carb Mission tortilla you were talking about. I love pasta sauce, but I didn't know about that low-no sugar brand. And to make lower cal & carb pizzas from those thing? Wow, what a great idea!!! Also, some lapbanders & maybe bypass members of my support group really think it's hard to eat pizza crust & bread. One person choked on pizza crust early on after surgery, but she's far out post-op now. I should tell her about the de-lite pizza, because she used to be a big pizza lover. Great Ideas!

Yummm fresh tomato season is here!  When I pick a tomato off the vine and that smell of fresh tomato vine gets on my hands it morphs me back to being a little kid picking tomatoes with my dad.  Of course back then I didn't like them and never ate them - I just liked picking them!  When tomatoes are good and I want something cool I like to make whatchamacallits where you take those little garlic herb rounds of toast, put a slice of fresh mozzarella cheese, a slice of tomato, a piece of fresh basil and drizzle olive oil and balsamic vinegar over them.   Again,  I need the crunch and figured out early on after my surgery how to get it without  provoking trouble.    Baking pita bread dry until it crunched and having good hummus was good for lunch sometimes.

Starflower: I am just curious, does the Nutrisystem plan really work?  I was just wondering.  I keep on getting suff from them in the mail, I have called them over and over and told them I had RNY almost 2 yrs ago and do not need their services.  I am down almost 300 lbs since my surgery.  I can pretty much eat what I want, but just little tiny portions.
