The Magic Phone Call!
Okay, I actually made the phone call to OHSU myself, but Heather said she was going to call me today anyway! I'm booked in for gastric bypass on August 26, with Dr. O'Rourke.
I got impatient and called Regence BCBSO on Tuesday (well, there were some other calls, involving some drama that I don't want to go into here, but...) and they said I had been approved. I waited through Wednesday and yesterday, and gave up just now and called OHSU and they put me through to Heather and the rest you know!
My pre-op thingy is July 21, which means two trips to PDX in three days, because my daughter's PSU orientation is Saturday the 19th!
There were the usual ups and downs along the way that most of you can relate to, but even when it was very discouraging I made myself remember that I was incredibly lucky to even have health insurance, much less a plan that covers this surgery. If you have a similar situation and things get rough, just remember how fortunate you are that you at least have access. It really helped me get over the bumps in the road.
So here's to all of you who are still waiting for the magic phone call; may it come soon for you, too!
Una Madre Feroz
Go Beavers!
It will be so worth every little bump on the way! When I was raising my brood folks ahead of me would tell me how fast it goes. It didn't feel that way when I was in those toddler years! In a similar way, once the huge event of losing so much weight happens the struggle to get there becomes a distant memory. Of course I always remember the angst and my doubts that it would ever really happen or work. Still, the whole thing seems like it all went so fast and is a whirl of memory. I am kind of amazed that I had the tenacity to admit to needing to do something so huge and making it happen all on my own (no one knew I even had the surgery until months later except my husband) now that it's over and already happened. When I started the process in 2002 it wasn't nearly as common as it has become.
Good luck on your surgery. It will be great I promise! Congratulations on launching a college student. Don't put your wallet away any time soon!
