OHSU NP question

So I'm really excited and scared and nervous and everything else I have my NP appotinemt at OHSU on the 30th. I think I know what happens there but i'm not sure. Anyone wanna fill me in on what takes place at the NP and how long it normally is? my Nut appointment isn't till July so I wont be doing both right away. Thanks in advance, Beth

The medical assistant will start by taking your height and weight and vitals. The NP will review your medical history and then ask which procedure you want (DS, gastric bypass, lap-band). The NP will assign a surgeon unless you want a specific one.  Dr. Deveney does DS and gastric bypass; Dr. O'Rourke does only gastric bypass; and Dr. Wolfe does gastric bypass and lap-band. The NP will talk with you about the benefits and risks of your chosen procedure.  The NP will also tell you the length of your hospital stay. The NP will give you a list of requirements to be met before your initial contact with the surgeon. Your appointment is scheduled for an hour.  Mine took about an hour and 15 minutes. Hi Beth, I know what you mean about being excited,,,keep that enthusiasm.  Sometimes all the appts. can seem tedious but it is really all worth it.  Dr. Deveney at OHSU was my surgeon and he is a great man.  Not overly warm at first, but he does an excellent job and I have been very pleased with everything.  Be sure to make notes of any questions you may have, no matter how insignificant you may feel they are.  Everyone was so helpful with all my cares and concerns.  I had my surgery on 11/28/07 and to date have lost 90 lbs.  It doesn't seem possible some times but it is a process and yes, a journey.  I wish you all the best.  I have my 6 month appt. next month with Dr. Deveney and then won't see him again until my 1 year anniversary!!!!!!!!!!  I can't believe how fast the months have gone.  Take care, Sharon

Hi Vicki, I had laprascopic RNY on 11/18/07.  It was very easy recovery and virtually no pain.  Home in two days.  Thanks for asking. Shar
