Anyone else see Jay Jan at Good Sam?

I haven't posted in the Oregon forum before, mostly because I just recently found it!  I'm Lynn and Dr. Jan performed my Lap-Band surgery March 20th.  I saw him yesterday for a fill and he told me he's leaving the practice effective August 15th.  He said it just hasn't been a good fit for him.  He said there's a new surgeon that will most likely see his patients and they're looking to hire a new surgeon, but I'm really, really bummed.  Just thought I'd give a heads up to anyone else that sees him.

I'm also a patient of Dr. Jan - saw him last week and he gave me the news.  I'm also bummed.  He told me he should know where he'll be by my visit in July and whether he'll be doing bariatrics.  I hope we'll be able to chose who we see in the future.

Well, I'm shocked!  I'm scheduled to see Dr. Jan on the 12th of June, I'm sure I'll get the news then.  Wow!  I really like Dr. Jan.  He never made me feel like he thought less of me because of my weight, etc.  I'll miss him. Nola

Well this news is a bummer!!  He was my surgeon almost 2 years ago and I really liked him.  Since he will be leaving my question is will one of the other doctors see us or are we out in left field to fend for ourselves?  I see people posting all the time trying to find a doctor cause theirs had left and it seems really like a hassle cause most doctors don't want to see someone that they didn't do the surgery on. He told me at my last appt. as well.  I am pretty sure he mentioned that one of the other Dr.s would take over his patients so I don't think anyone will be left out in the cold. I liked him and hope the next physician will be as nice.

When I started this process around end of '05/begng '06, Dr. Hong, Dr Jan, and Dr. Patterson were all there. Some people in our local Salem support group were patients of Dr. Hong before he left. They just see other non surgeon doctors for their fills and consults. There is another surgeon in training who has been there quite a while who sometimes does consultations along other surgeons (I guess for practice). I just got word he is going to start doing surgeries really soon. I also heard they're suppose to be hireing another surgeon. However, they haven't really replaced Dr. Hong yet (probably the surgeon in training), and now Dr. Jan is leaving? That's interesting. His wife recently gave birth. Anyway, the new guy seems very efficient, so that will probably help, but I hope they don't get too backed up. It seems like any more slow processing would not be good. You won't be left out in the cold though, because it's a medical team there with other post-op doctors that help out. There are some other real nice non-surgeon type doctors/nurses there.

Hmm, I'm planning on seeing Dr Jan for my surg.  There's another surgeon, Dr Valerie Halpin, they hired in mid-April who has bariatric experience.  She'll probably pick up some of the work, if she hasn't already.  Only prob with that is that some insur (like mine) won't cover me if I see her since she's new.  Alicia
