Heartburn
Hi,
It's been two years this month since my surgery. Just over a year ago, I had my gallbladder removed. Since the gallbladder was removed, I've suffered from Postcolestechtomy syndrome, which has been tough to deal with and I have been back and forth between doctors trying to control the symptoms.
The symptom I was not expecting, or necessarily believe is related is severe heartburn, which only started about 9 weeks ago. The only time I ever suffered from heartburn was when I was pregnant. I was under the impression that i shouldnt be experiencing heartburn after RNY.
Has anyone else experienced this after both RNY and post gallbadder? I contacted my gastro specialist (not my RNY surgeon) and he doesnt seemed too concerned and declined to do an endoscopy, didnt feel it was necessary. I personally feel it is necessary since this is something I don't think i should be experiencing and it's so severe.
I've thought about contacting Dr. Tersigni, but I'm not too interested in having to drive all the way back to Coos Bay for a consult and then have to schedule another visit for an endoscopy. Call it what you want, but I'm tired of seeing doctors and don't want to spend a fortune in Gas just to be told it's nothing or it's normal. SO - if anyone knows if this is normal or has or is going through it and tell me i don't need to waste time seeing yet another doctor, I'm all ears.
Take care, thanks!
I had real bad reflux/heart burn preop RNY. As soon as I had the RNY, my heartburn was gone and it has not been back. I had it real bad too, nearly every night, waking me up in the middle of the night gagging on the acid. I so don't miss that at all! I hope that I don't have that to look forward to as the years go on. I will be 2 years post RNY in November. I also had my gallbladder out nearly 2 years ago ... 2 months post RNY.
I would post this question on the main board to see if others have experienced it. I agree with you that you shouldn't be experiencing it since the RNY and would be interested to hear what others say.
