It is very helpful to find out exactly what your insurance requires for your surgery to be approved and then get the process started as quickly as possible.  I did not know what all was required from my insurance and when I went for my first appt with OHSU I was informed there was nothing they could do for me till I had my one year supervised weight loss taken care of.  In the mean time I did get my physc eval, heart stress test, colonoscopy, I already had the sleep apnea test done and am using a cpap machine.  Anyway go ahead and get started getting all of your pre-requisited taken care of, it will speed up the process in the mean time.  Also get all of your records from your PCP that is helping you, together and make sure to take them to your first appointment with OHSU.  Get copies of all medical records from the physc test and sleep apnea to take along also.  Hope this helps.  Linda

You may also want to call your insurance company to see exactly what their requirements are in addition to those of OHSU.  Not sure how much it will speed up the process.....but  that way you will know if there is anything unexpected or unplanned for.  I was one of the fortunate ones, I was NOT required to do a supervised diet before my surgery.  I also had a BMI over 40 with comorbidities.... Hope that helps, and good luck with your weight loss journey!
