Well after 5 long years I finally have insurance.  Now dont get to excited because it is the oregon health plan.  But to my knowlecge they just started approving WLS after 6 months of supervision with your doc and you also have to have a co- morbility.  If you have type 2 diabetes you are approved even if you are not needing meds yet.  I am pre diabetic borderline.  Lately i have been having awfull dizzy spells where i almost pass out.  My ears ring and the side of my face gets a bit numb.  I can finally go to the doc and see what thats all about.  I also need knee replacement surgery but i really want the weight off first.  I think it would be to hard trying to recover with an extra 100 pounds to lug around.  If any one knows more about OHP feel free to let me know what you know.  As it stands to my knowledge it is covered as long as you have problems medically.  Thanks everyone!!! Chris, I don't know about the OHP but wanted to wish you the best.  At the very least you'll become our resident expert! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Lori

I too don't know any details about OHP but wish you the best.  I just had total knee replacement surgery and would consider it ideal to the the WLS first.  I can imagine how much more difficult the recovery would have been at my former weight.  It would just have to be so much more difficult for the surgeon too, and for the incision which is pretty big.  Still, keep going towards it because it is so amazing not to be walking bone on bone anymore!!  Like the WLS it was a huge quality of life improvement. Hey Chris - congratulations on the insurance!  It's really good that you'll be able to get the dizzy spells checked out.  If you are pre-diabetic, it could very well be your blood sugar.  I don't know much about the OHP, but I do know that a friend needs a knee replacement and the doctor refuses to do it until she loses a substantial amount of weight.  Sounds like you're on your way to getting your health back.  Good for you. Linda
