Hi and welcome! I was just scheduled for surgery through OHSU (May 15). I chose lapband-and it turns out the surgeon agrees that in my case it is a good choice. If you plan things really well you might just be able to line stuff up and get scheduled for surgery shortly after your 6 month supervised diet. The key I found with OHSU is the stay on top of your records transfers. You have already taken care of the first part-your main records have been sent and received. I have had a lot of problems both getting people to send my records and OHSU keeping track of records so beware that you have be proactive in this process. If they let you start taking your tests (blood test, upper GI, psych evaluation etc.) do so. I didn't have to take a sleep apnea test so I dont know how easy that one is to schedule but I had by far the hardest time getting an appointment with a psychologist and then getting that psych to send in my report. Once you have visited with the nurse practitioner and know what tests you are going to have to take get the psych evaluation test arranged quickly. After you have finished any tests from outside of OHSU i would recommend picking up your records in person and hand delivering them. I did not and it took 6 month just in waiting for records transfers. I think that if I had done thing in person It would have only been about 1 month. good luck! I was impressed by most of the people at OHSU-but paperwork is not their strong suit and you can do a lot to move it along! Tina

Hi Tina,  Thanks for the welcome.  Yes, I got the feeling I have to stay on top of them at OHSU from what I have read from others posts.  Does everyone have to get an upper GI first?   I had a sleep study five years ago and use CPAP.  I requested those records but they haven't received it yet.  I'm going to call on Monday and see if they were sent.  Which doctor is doing your surgery and have you met with him yet?   I look forward to hearing how things go with your progress and good luck with your surgery and thanks for the tips! Linda

I think everyone has to have an upper GI but am not positive. I did-it wasnt too bad though-just a barium swallow and a ride on a moving bed! first i stood up, then it tipped me back and then from side to side-was funny. The milkshakes were nasty but I managed. I also had to have a motility test (tube up the nose and down the throat) I have not heard many people talk about that one so it might not be something most people have to do. It was by far the worst test I had to endure but I managed (just uncomfortable to get the tube down). I have met my surgeon (dr. Wolfe) He seems nice-he reminds me of the dad from my three sons. From what I gather he is the only surgeon who does lapband. You will not meet your surgeon until you have a surgery date. I thought this procedure is really weird and backwards. I dont really want a data before I meet the guy who I am supposed to trust to do the job but thats the way it is. I think they are in such high demand that they can do this and we put up with it.
