Hi everyone,  I have been lurking for a couple months now and thought I would finally introduce myself.  I love this site and have gotten a wealth of information here.  I originally wanted to have the lap band but after researching and reading everything I can, I think the RNY would be my best option.  I have gone to OHSU for their orientation and have submitted my application.  I called and spoke with someone there this afternoon and they have most of my medical records and she will submit my file for review.  I don't know how long that will take, but hopefully I will be called soon.  I have to do a six month supervised diet program for my insurance so I started that last month and I have joined Weigh****chers at the same time.  I am hoping sometime this fall I will be able to have my surgery.  I can not wait; I wi**** were tomorrow.  I'm so ready to do this.    Can I ask of the other OHSU people here how their experience has been with them?   I am reading the forums on OH several times a day and I love it.  I get so much information here and look forward to participating.  Linda

Hi Linda,  Your post is almost me.  My records went in for review.  Got all the extra records sent back.  All I have to get is pulmonary clearance.  Next week is my appointment.   Then I will get my appointments scheduled up at OHSU.  Best to you.  Topsy.

Hi Topsy,  I was so excited when I found out my records went in for review.  Just one step closer.   I wonder how long it will take?   You will probably have your surgery way before me since I have to do the six month supervised thing.   I look forward to hearing about your progress.  Good luck! Linda

Hi I am a Linda also.  I started WLS 13 months ago everything went great rushed through all the preliminaries and then Insurance required 12 month supervised WL.  They need one full year out of the last two years and I had not gone to Dr but once as I was healthy in the last year up till then about every 2 months.  Anyway I only had 9 months in the past two years so had to do another year before surgery.  Well during this year I have started a new job and acquired another insurance carrier that also covers WLS.  Whoooo Hoooo.  Both insurance carries have approved at last.  I also got all of the other requirements that OHSU wanted me to do while I waited.  When they told me I had to wait a year I felt bad however it has turned out to be a blessing and now my surgery is 100% covered.  YEAH!!!>   Good luck with the next 6 months they will fly by.  Linda

Hi Linda, So nice to meet you.  Has your surgery been scheduled?   Can't wait to see how your journey goes.  So far my six month is crawling to me.   I don't have much patience, lol.   That is great your insurance will cover 100% now.  Mine will only be 80% and I'm not sure yet if they are going to want the 20% up front or not.  I am assuming they will.   Take care,  Linda

Linda,
I, too, have been reading everything I can get my hands on - even WLS for Dummies (my fav so far). Also I am in the process of seeing a physician to get all the prep work done before I submit my application in to OHSU. I have not seen a doctor for the past 2 1/2 years, so needed to get some sort of medical records to send in. (doctor I had been seeing was not very sympathetic to large patients)
How far along are you?
