Hi, if you are going to Mexico because its cheaper, I went to Dr Tersigni in North Bend and it was half of what Portland hospitals charged for lap band..They have a web site and will send you all the info that you need and its closer than Mexico.

Hi there Misisca, I went to Dr. Alvarez in Mexico last May. I had the VSG. Dr. A does the lap band too. I would do it all over again with Dr. A. He is AWESOME. He had a patient reunion and there was a great turnout. His website is www.endobariatric.com. Do your research and only you can decide. All I can say is Dr. A is the best at what he does. Dr. Alvarez and his staff are great. Your not only their patient, your their friend for life. If you want to talk more about it, I would enjoy talking about my journey and what Dr. A can do for you......Larry~

Hi there..I too went to Dr. Tersigni in Coos Bay...I know he won't be much more expensive than in Mexico and he is WONDERFUL!!! He has the lowest complication rate for the state of Oregon.. I also highly recommend him...he did my LapBand 14 days ago...

I'm going to refrain from offering an opinion about a specific doctor in Mexico (I have my opinions but they're just mine and not from direct experience) BUT I do want to tell you of two very important components about being banded outside the US. First, let me say I'm NOT trying to discourage you but to present you with the facts that you'll be dealing with. Second, here goes... 1.  If you're going to Mexico to be banded because insurance doesn't cover the procedure for you then you'd better be forewarned that insurance typically won't cover any type of complication, either.  Some of those complications can get quite serious and spendy.  This is true of RNY, VSG and other procedures and whether or not you actually go to Mexico or stay in the States and are self-pay. 2.  There are very few doctors in Oregon/Washington/Idaho that will even see a non-US banded patient (heck, they don't even want to see someone else's US-banded patient) for complications or fills.  Follow up is critical for band success.  If you don't have the appropriate aftercare in place BEFORE you get banded, well, then you might as well either not get the band or not bother having the surgery at all. I know my post sounds a touch negative.  Let's just say that that's usually how my life goes so I prefer to be a realist -- not a pessamist or optimist. Lori
