Counselor Recommendations

Does anyone have any counselor recommendations for the Portland area? I had been seeing a behavioral therapist for eating but apparently she has no experience with bariatric surgery so I’m back to the drawing board on this one.  My insurance requires me to do 3 visits and I remember OHSU saying that it can take a long time to get into theirs so I’m looking for options.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

The NP at OHSU advised me that the clinic does not have a counselor on staff.  So we will have to go to one elsewhere.  She did refer me to a counseling clinic, but that clinic is not experienced in bariatrics.  Right now, I am in limbo.   Some of those from out of town (like Salem and Eugene) got counseling in their home areas.

I really liked the psychologist I saw here in Newport but he said he has a practice in Portland too. Sounded like his specialties were Bariatrics and pain management....I just had a psych eval with him. His name was Ronald Duvall, PhD.

You could call him and see if he does what you need. I don't have his PDX number so you will need to google him. Good luck!

OHSU gave me a list of recommendations-if they didnt give you a list call ohsu back and ask. I called about 4 off the list and 1 was too busy, 2 didnt call me back and the 4th was in Corvallis. I think no matter who you pick it will take time. In the end it took 3 months to visit the psych 2 times and for her to write the evaluation. OHSU should almost have you start with the psych evaluation because it took by far the longest to get done. Tina
