Am I Eating Too Much?
How do you know when you're eating too much at a sitting? It doesn't hurt after I eat and I don't get sick from eating too much. I'm scared that I've streatched my pouch out. Some days, I can hardly eat a small portion but then some days, I can consume a normal size meal. It's very scary. Is this normal? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
I hope that you are normal because that would be me as well. I didn't see how far out you are but I am just over 1 year out and am at the same point.
There are days that I can not eat much but then there are days where I can eat a full meal. I think that this is normal and I just really try to eat as healthy as possible in all meals. I also have learned to eat slower so I think that that also helps. I also make sure that I don't eat until I am full, but until I am satisfied.
Hope that helps
Tara
I think it's normal. The really normal part is being scared that you are doing it "right". Further out you do start to have an appetite, and are able to consume a more normal size meal. I experienced an ebb and flow to my appetite pattern. Some days I would be really hungry and eat three full size meals, and then other days I would realize I hadn't eaten lunch yet.
I didn't want to let fear and thoughts of how much I was eating to start feel like a negative thing. While you do want to be mindful of what you are eating and how you are progressing, don't feel like you have to be afraid of failure all the time. At the one year point I was succeeding, and I felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. It always had before!
I embraced the very basic rules. I figured so long as I drank all of my water, didn't drink with meals, got a good portion of protein with each meal, swam my laps, and made good food choices....it would work. And it does! If you were stretching your pouch there would be very obvious and serious actions causing it. I don't think it is as common as we fear, and I have to imagine it would provoke unpleasant symptoms of overeating and eating too fast, and weight gain, etc. before it was stretched. I learned over time to be aware of what the bite prior to eating too much feels like. I still hear myself in my head saying "one more bite and that's it". If you know you are following the basic rules of the surgery it will work.
You are doing terrific!

Thanks to all for your responses, I really appreciate it. I'm about 9 months out and the weight loss is starting to slow down now. I'm working out at the gym during the day and then walking 3 miles at night with friends. I've had a couple of weeks where I gained a pound. When I looked back at the week prior, I knew it was because I was eating things that I shouldn't have and not exercising like I should. So, I can see that I must stay on task and not rely on the surgery to keep the weight off. Hope everyone has a great week!!
