I didn't know Lucie very well but had seen postings of her in recent days, mainly on the DS boards.  Yet, I am deeply saddened by her passing on and leaving her hubby and 2 beautiful kids behind. My condolences to her hubby and her kids. Thanks for the post.

I did not know Lucie, but have seen the recent posts regarding her fight with the infection. It is just heartbreaking.  My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Shirley

saddest thing is the surgery went well....she was ok, then the deadly MRSA infection invaded months afterwards...

what is an MSRA infection?  Is it a risk for everyone?

MRSA stands for "methicillin-resistant staph aureus".  It's a very dangerous staph infection that is resistant to many antibiotics. Infections with MRSA can be costly and difficult to treat because of limited antibiotic options.   MRSA can happen anywhere from hospitals to the community. MRSA was the secondary cause of my mom's death.

Congrats on your surgery date.  The best defense against MSRA is hand washing---yours and those who care for you.  Watch them like a hawk, in the hospital and if they do not wash their hands when they come into your room and are going to touch you---remind them.  Even M.D.'s forget.  Be your own best advocate!  Julia
