Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Happy belated thanksgiving to all
as usual I am a day late and a dollar short but I wanted to tell each of you how grateful I am to have all my new friends, my new lease on life and my health. I know that some of you struggle today before and after surgery I just want you to know that you need to just hang on and take one day at a time relax and breath. you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Kelly
Tara, my name is KathyS and im around 10 months out from my Gastric Bypass. Im finding that
my appetite has returned somewhat to a point, and that worries me a little bit. I was able to eat pretty much a bit of almost everything for Thanksgiving. including stuffing, which totally amazed me, considering, im not able to tolerate bread too well. Ive been staying away from pastas also, since the last time which has been a while, i tried a bite and it didnt sit too well, on my stomach. Only meat i can really tolerate, is a little bit of turkey from Thanksgiving, slow cooked turkey , like in the smart ones from weigh****chers, frozen entrees they have in the freezer section in the grocery store. thats about it. Did you go thru this phase around ten months out? Thanks, KathyS
Kathy,
I understand exactly what you are talking about. I to find I can eat more than I feel like I should be able to but I think its more about me eating more than I should be able to. I did eat a little bit of everything also. I did feel uncomfertable when I left the table but I have to admit that I did not eat anything close to what I would have without the surgery and should have stoped much earlier. But I have to remember that this is a tool for me to continue to make the life changes that I will have to choose to keep.
Go**** sure sounds easy but I know its not . its plain hard.
I can eat most anything sugar included and that is the hard thing for me,, I have to remember that I have to just make the choice to not eat is and if I do keep it down to a few bites.
LIfe changes,,, for life..
I am not loosing as fast as I was and I belive that is normal,, disapointing? YES defenatly but normal.
Kelly, i hear ya there! Im not losing as fast as i was before. But im not gaining either. Did you hear about this before, where i was reading that , if you dont consume enough protein, your body takes protein from your skeletal muscles, and over time, it even takes protein from your heart muscle and other organs, and that is very serious. Scares me too death! Id let that thought get away from me in time and to be honest, havent been getting enough protein in . Scary thought. If you make fabric from the right thread, the fabric is strong. it doesnt tear easily. your body is the same way. KathyS
Hi KathyS,
I too am at a point that I feel like I can eat more than I think I should be able to but and I don't really think it's a phase, I think that it is what the rest of our lives will be like.
I ate a bit of everything... not too much bread cuz that doesn't do so well either and I think that is very common. Like Kelly, I too can eat just about everything, including some sugar. It is very scary and very difficult.
I am not loosing at the same rate, but I only have about 10 pounds until my goal and I am almost 1 year out. As we continue to loose weight our bodies adjust and I think that we should be able to eat in order to maintain our body weight. I am a bit (ok.. a lot) concerned about gaining weight but I think that my stomach is my tool and I have to use it wisely. Do I make poor decisions sometimes.. heck yeah I do but then just like everyone else I have to get back on track and refocus.
I don't think you are abnormal and I think that you are doing well. I haven't read your profile so as I am typing this I wonder how much weight you have lost and how much you have left. I just ended a 2 month stall on weight loss and lost another 4 pounds which is good for me. I have to remember that the weightloss has to slow down at some point.
Good luck and keep me posted... feel free to ask any ? you may have.. you can send me a message if you'd like too.
Tara
PS.. sorry this was so long.. I kind of get on a roll :)
Hi Tara: I was so glad to read your post. I am right behind you with RNY on 12/22/06 and your story sounds just like mine. The weight loss has slowed down and I am about 15 lbs from goal. I also find that I can eat about anything except meat and finally tried something with sugar and had no problems. That probably is not good but I do find that my desire and taste has changed for sweets. I think bread will be my problem as I find when I cannot eat anything else very well, bread or crackers do well. I have a acquaintance who had this surgery five years ago and she is now gaining weight. That is my fear that I went through all this and feel so good so don't want to gain it back. It is like a new lease on life and oh by the way I am 115 lbs down now.
