I talked to Deanna today
She is doing really well! She was sent home with a friend on Friday. In the hospital, at first, her pain meds weren't working, but when they put her on oral meds, it helped immediately. So she got up and started walking. She said her dr. was very pleased with his work on her. She has quite a huge incision. And she says her tummy is flat! And no more saddle bags. She is thrilled. Her incisions are not stitched or stapled. They are covered and then this paper tape is covering all the incision. I guess it's supposed to make for a less noticeable scar. She also has a binder.
They removed 20 lbs. of skin. She is amazed. She has 4 drains. She goes in tomorrow and it hoping to get one of them removed. She's very happy and doinig well. Says to say HI to everyone.
Thanks for the update Kim. Where did she have her surgery done? I had my RNY at OHSU and, when I woke up, I had no staples or stitches either. I guess the stitches are under the skin. They were covered with Tegaderm tape that I was told to take off if it didn't wash off after so many days. The only residual I feel is occasionally a tiny bit of "fishing line" type stuff sticking out. I ignore it and it goes away.
