Hi Patty,

I chose Providence health plans a couple of years ago just for the reason of their coverage for weight loss surgery and the fact that they did not require a six month pre-op diet, but rather, gave you six months to get all the pre-op requirements taken care of. I fulfilled my pre-op requirements in 2.5 months and had surgery approved within 2 weeks of submitting the paperwork, even with an appeal because the doctors office failed to supply some of the necessary documentation. I paid a total of 300.00 dollars for my surgery. It was well worth it to me, considering the hang-ups I had heard about with Kaiser patients and the potential for a high out of pocket with BCBS in 2006. Providence did not cover the DS initially so I had the RNY with Dr. Deveney. I would have preferred the DS but have done well with the RNY. I wish you the best with your journey and would highly recommend Providence health plans. They were really a "no hassle" alternative for me. Jill

Also: I think you have until October 31st to change your PEBB insurances. I also work for the State of Oregon.

Good Luck!
