My big appt. tomorrow-what to bring?

Ok, so I have a diagram of my surgery, since I have been unsuccessful at getting my surgical records yet (I'm going to send my request in writing certified, return receipt requested, and if he doesn't comply with that, I will report him to the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners).  I am also bringing a food diary, so the surgeon can see what I've been eating, the names and phone numbers of my PCP and original surgeon, and my weight loss history in chart and graph form.  They already have 45 pages of records from my PCP, including my hospital stay records and test results.

Is there anything else I'm forgetting?  I really need to make my case to this new surgeon.  I'm really counting on getting some kind of answer tomorrow and I don't want to overlook anything.

Kim - sounds like you're well-prepared.  I'm hoping Dr. Deveney can help you out.  A darned fool can see that you're under-weight and malnourished.  DANG IT!  If you don't get satisfaction, tell him he's not going to like it if he makes me come up there!    I think you will finally get the help you need.  OHSU is very prominent in the National Institutes of Health study on the results of weight loss surgery.  They can see that your outcome is not a healthy one and will help you. I'll be praying for you just the same!  Best wishes! Linda

I'm so hopeful for tomorrow.  I also almost forgot I need to bring my list of medications too.   I sure hope I'm as interesting to them as I am interested to get things going with them.  Wow, that didn't make any sense...

The doctor's office will want to see the bottles with labels for your meds, since this will be your first visit.  Those will be recorded into your medical records. I am sure that they will find you interesting too!

Surgical records can be obtained at the hospital where the surgery was done.  Try contacting them to have them fax those records over to Dr. D.'s office.

I know that you will get the help that you need at OHSU.  If Linda has to come up there to talk sense into Dr. D., then I will too.  It's only a six-mile drive from my home. If you are still weak, then there are wheelchairs available at all parking levels and at the desk on the main floor. Think you should pack some stuff in case Dr. D. needs to admit you to the hospital directly from his office. Best of luck!

Oh, you know what, Vicki?  I hadn't even THOUGHT of the possibility they would admit me.  I guess I've lost quite a bit of faith in my assessment of my own health.  That and the way no other drs. have really been able to do anything for me.  I better get a bag together.  And my computer, just in case. Thanks!

AND in light of infections lately....we have 3-4 on The DS board that are recovering from the Staph infections like MRSA and others after hosp. visits-WASH under your fingernails after you handle door knobs etc. at the hosp./clinincs...can't be too safe especially while you are in such a delicate condition! Take alcohol hand cleaner & don't touch your face.... just worried about you!
