Richard: Don't chicken out, weight loss surgery is so worth it.  I had RNY almost 14 months ago and have lost 265 lbs.  ( a majority of it pre-op).  I feel like a whole new person.  When I had my surgery, they put me out, and next thing I remember, I was in recovery.  Don't remember a thing. Good luck on your incredible journey, Peggy

Hi Richard:

I have not had surgery yet, but have been researching this since 2004.  I started going through classes and stuff when we were in CA, and then came to OR and when I got insurance again tried again, but our insurance changed again, because our employer fond better insurance, so now I am at square 1 again, but I wish that I were only a few days away.   Please do not lose faith, and I will send prayers and thoughts your way.  It will be okay, you will find yourself much more healthier, and happier.    Please keep us informed.   Deb

Hey Deb: Thank you for your kind words. I'm very scared but everyone who has been through it says it is worth it. I made an appt. for monday at the VA to see a counsler. Maybe that will help. The bad thing is that my wife is not very supportive. She thinks that I should be able to do it on my own. The expense for this is not covered by our ins. so it has been a struggle because I paid for it out of our pocket. Anyway I will continue to look to this group for words of wisdom.  Thank you!! Richard

Richard, I hope you're feeling a bit better.  I was banded just over two years ago and LOVE it.  I have absolutely no complaints -- even though I've been a slow loser I'll take it because I know I would have actually gained more weight during the time I lost relatively little. Your emotions are perfectly normal.  I'm sorry your wife isn't as supportive as you'd like.  Perhaps it is because you both have a different outcome pictured.  Although I don't know your surgeon personally I know quite a few people have used Dr. T for lap band and RNY.  I've not heard a complaint about him yet. I'm sure you've done your research, though. Let your wife know that this is the best thing I've done for myself (I'm down about 75 pounds and still losing) and that I think you deserve a huge pat on the back.  Ultimately she'll benefit from your better health. Unfortunately I'm going to be away from my computer for a while otherwise I'd love to offer both of you more support.  If you want to respond, please do.  I'll be periodically checking my computer but won't have dedicated internet access until the 22nd so I'll also be thinking about you on your surgery day. Oh, also tell your wife that having regrets about having surgery are pretty common about a week or two out.  If you and your wife are prepared, it'll go much faster and you'll both know you're normal... Take care and best of luck, Lori
