Ok I started out with one doctor, but the fact that the group had only done 80 lap bands in the last 5 years had me putting on the brakes abit.
Went to the info meeting at Legacy and was hearing I could get in pretty quickly if I used the SW Wash medical center where they are starting to also do surgery, told they would probably schedule me last week, well its been a week and a half and still waiting, keep getting voice mail when I try the person I need to speak to.....
Soooo after talking to a friend this weekend, call Dr Tersigni's office, they can get me in for a consult next week, and surgery about two weeks after!!!!! Ok, now I am terrified, am I doing the right thing??? Went from moving tooooo slow to moving to fast!!!! Any negatives or positives about Dr Tersigni??? PM me if you want. He was not even on my radar until this weekend..... HELP!!!!

Laurie - In my opinion, you go where you need to get get what you need to.  I don't know Dr. Tersigni, but I've seen lots of good posts about him.  Perhaps one of his patients will chime in and let you know what they think.  I have heard that Bay Bariatrics (where Dr. Tersigni practices) has recently become a center of excellence, which is a good thing. wow, that's pretty fast for surgery after consultation. Are you self pay? It took 8 weeks to get authorization from BCBS for my surgery after consultation. Good thing was that Dr. Tersigni and his staff did all the work to get it for me. I have to give Dr. Tersigni and Bay Area Hopsital a thumbs up. I was required to attend a support meeting and go for a Psychological evaluation before the surgery. The psychologist was a very nice lady. Took about 1/2 hour. Also had to have tests done ( but your own Dr. can do those and send the results as mine did to Tersigni's office). I had the Lap RNY. went in Tues morn and was out Thurs morn. Operation took about 45 min. The staff at Bay Area Hospital were great. Lots of nurses there when you needed them. They also required you stayed in the area for 5 days for followups. The hosp has RV hookups or you can stay at Red Lion that has discounts for people in area for surgery. They have a ton of other places to stay too. You are supposed to have someone to drive you to and from because of pain meds. But I didn't need any after 2nd day and drove home myself though my daughter waqs with me. Was a 4 hr drive from Portland. From Springfield probably about 2 1/2. I went there because Dr. Tersigni had a good reputation and had done over 1,000 WLS's. I was not disappointed.

I also had Fed Blue cross and they paid everything but $100 because I got pre approval through Dr. Tersigni. Even stated on my Blue Cross explanation of benefits that since I got pre approval they were paying the whole enchilada. I hope that hasn't changed any since I got mine done.

I have already done everything for Dr #1, infact more than required for Dr tersigni, Stress test, abd ultrasound, sleep test, ekg, (or is it eeg.... always get those 2 mixed up) mamo today, our family therapist is meeting with me Thur and writing a report, just need nutritional.... And, I guess a date!
I have federal Blue Cross, and they have no approval, you just have to do everything specified and be within the specified BMI ect, submitt your bill and hope they pay! (I've been told the almost always do, or else you fix the problem and re-submitt). All the doctors offices I have spoken to tell me they LOVE my insurence.
So does anyone know of any negatives to Dr T????
Laurie

PS Thanks to everyone who has responded, keep them coming! ;-)

I had lap band almost 3 years ago w/ Dr. Tersigni, I have always received and continue to receive excellent care and support from them.  He keeps his price low so that every day people can afford to have surgery and start new lifes. He is a man of prayer, there is a photo in his office very large photo of a surgeon praying at the sugery table - that picture speaks a million words.   you'll be happy with your decision. Gail

Hello.. like you  my husband started out with one center (S. Oregon Bariatrics) and then went with Dr Tersigni in Coos Bay.  Robin, Dr.T's nurse has had the surg. as well as one of his  back nurses. They are great to work with, the hospital was pretty good.. ( you can't help who they put in a room with you)  His surgery was on a Thursday,(LAP RNY)  he was released on Sat AM, and he wanted to go home ( we are in Roseburg )  I brought him home and thankfully all went well. If you go w/ Dr T the only thing that bothered me is the 300.00 for the education class prior to surg. I had been camping on the net for any and all WL stories good or bad, and  had read everything I could get my hands on, so it really didn't tell us anything.. did see the different options for protein replacement (but not 300.00 worth) All in all I would rate my husbands experience as a 9.  His blood sugar levels have dropped and his feet have stopped hurting ( he's lost 42 pounds) ......... the only problem he is having is stomach pain and throwing up this huge ball of slime, but after having read a post... I think he might be drinking too much with / before his meal. Good luck, I'm sure you will like Dr Tersigni, and Robyn is wonderful!!
