I am considering DS too myself and hope to get Dr. Deveney as my surgeon.  I don't think Drs. O'Rourke or Wolfe does DS.  Dr. O'Rourke tried to dissuade us from considering DS during the seminar that I attended, but I think he is just too biased. At least I will be one of the very few DSers from the DS board who will be traveling only a short distance to the clinic and the hospital (less than 6 miles).

I know- he was that way when I went there!  I wish he'd just refer peoples questions to the DS Nurse Practioner S. Fee....you will meet her & she's very good!  Mention the fact that that O'Rourke is that way at his seminars- I did & they said they'd try to let him know to refer those questions to THEM! ONLY 6 miles! Even I had to come from Eugene area! Keep me posted on your journey...I am usually on the Duodenal Switch Forum...

Yes, Susan Fee is the one whom I will be meeting in my initial appointment.  I will make sure to mention to her about Dr. O'Rourke.  I will also be meeting with Shannon, the RD, in the next hour after my appointment with Susan. While I was at the seminar, I did hear about several people who came from as far away as the Medford and Ashland areas.  Their insurance may have required them to go to a Center of Excellence for WLS.  There were also several OHSU employees who got covered for WLS for the first time effective last January. I usually lurk in the DS board too and also post on occasion.  Many of them have to travel hundreds and thousands of miles to their DS surgeons.  Like I said in my earlier post, I am one of the lucky few who has to travel only a short distance to the clinic and the hospital.

Wow! The employees must be happy about the ins. coverage! While I was there one mentioned she'd have DS in a heartbeat over  RNY as she was on Dr. Deveny & O'Rourkes teams. It was good feedback. Shannon gives a good presentation too. Lurk away and fill your noodle with info! Best thing you can do while waiting!
