I've been reading that after a year or sooner for some people , the hunger and cravings come back so how did the surgery help after the first 6months to a year passes when YOU CAN'T eat anything? Carnie Wilsons new book call "I'm still hungrey", makes me wonder if your right back to the beginning and what now keeps a person from going back to all the temptations if they are hungrey again and have those old feelings back. Any comments from people a year out or so I will sure appreciate. Thanks Carolee. P.S. I should be getting my surgery next month, just waiting for insurance varafication

A bypass is just a tool that will help you in changing your eating habits and into a more healty eating lifestyle. It is not a cure all. It helps you initially in forcing you to eat less. For me it also altered my taste buds so that all those foods i loved tasted different and yucky. But after a year or sooner your buds start to go back to normal. If you go back to your old eating habits you will again gain weight. I guess you can liken it with ex-alcoholics and smokers that have kicked the nicotine habit. If they again start drinking or smoking they will find themselves back in the same old boat. The same with us.

I think Jer said perfectly...I'm 5 years out and am doing fine. My RNY just put me on an even playing field...I lost the 200lbs I NEVER would have lost myself now it's up to me to keep it off and stay healthy. I eat pretty much anything I want, just not much of it. I really don't get hungry, I do crave things but I can have one or two oreos now instead of the WHOLE PACKAGE and feel satisfied. I make sure my "calorie in" stays in check with "my calorie out". Basically once your "Honeymoon" period is over you should have had enough time to relearn how and what to eat to have a healthier diet and have incorporated an exercise routine into your life. Best Wishes on your Journey...keep asking questions and getting support..it makes a HUGE difference!!! YOUR NOT IN THIS ALONE!!!! Big hugs.. Deanna K
