I am so disappointed right now I just want to cry. I knew there was a chance I would be denied but I need this surgery so bad I just thought maybe I could get lucky and get this life saving surgery. The place I wanted to have my surgery said it would be around $27,000 for my surgery including hospital stay. Omg thats alot of money. I know its worth it but damn. My question is if you were self pay where did you get it done and how much did it cost you? Please any info you can give me is needed. Thanks in advance Michelle

I only paid 11K -- call Dr Tersigni - the surgery is outpatient, no hospital My mother & I both had it done 3 days apart and we are doing great Good luck, contact me if you have any further questions 503-901-9249 after 6 pm

It has been a long road getting here, I am now going to take the time to enjoy it.

Unless otherwise stated in your denial letter, you should appeal.   Here is the link to appealing your insurance denial.  It also includes a sample appeal letter. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/information/wlsjour ney/insurance+trouble.php

Michelle - is there any chance you could appeal?  Why did they deny you?  Is there an exclusion in your insurance, or not enough diet history, or no co-morbidities, or what?  If you feel comfortable sharing, let us know, maybe we can give you some pointers for an appeal. Linda

Michelle just said in the Main WLS message board that she has Intercommunity Health Network, which is contracted under the Oregon Health Plan.  OHP does not cover WLS as a matter of policy.

I also went to Dr. Tersigni in Coos Bay and had a great experience. $10,000.

I was banded in Eugene at a cost of $22,000 that Insurance flat denied & (MONACO COACHES) would not let me appeal.  They state they will not make changes to their policy for ANYONE. I have had a revision of the Lap Band Port...another $3,000......all paid out of pocket. I had to take out a 2nd mortgage on my home at a credit union. We all complain about Insurance companies who do not approve these surgeries, but it's our employers who state what they will pay for  & what they will not.

I was self pay and went to Dr.Tersigni in Coos bay.  Less than half of what you said it was going to cost you. He is a very talented surgeon and love the staff. Good luck Tara

Another loyal Dr. Tersigni patient here. I think he is a great dr. I am not sure if you are talking about RNY or lapband. I don't come to this board often enough to know if the message board is separate for the two surgeries. I had my lap band done last Dec. It's still 10,000.00 but there is a class that you have to take that's $300.00 There is a swallow test the next day. There may be some other lab work that they want done, but all in all, it won't be over 11,000.00 which is still half of what you were quoted.
