Hi everyone!  I am having surgery (open RNY) at kaiser with dr. leger in less than 5 weeks. Can anyone tell me what I should have on hand for when I get home and what I should bring to the hospital?  I am soo excited and nervous my head is just spinning!! Also Linda ( or anyone else) what books do you recomend?  I have already read WLS for dummies and Before and after ( but I think I might read them again. please keep me in your prayers love amy

Might want to contact Kaiser about the list of items to bring to the hospital.  Here is a list of what most hospitals recommend that patients bring: Personal toiletries, including any special toileting items Robe and slippers (some hospitals provide non-slip sox at admission) Your cane or walker, if you use one Your night-time breathing equipment, including CPAP Any adaptive equipment Loose-fitting clothes to wear home What patients should leave at home: Valuables (money, billfold/wallet, purse, credit cards, jewelry) Electrically operated appliances Medications (unless your doctor asks you to bring them.  The hospital will administer your medication.) Perhaps there is such a listing in your WLS for Dummies book. Best of luck!

I took my chapstick and my CPAP machine.  They gave me everything else. The very best book I found on WLS was Weight Loss Surgery:  A Lighter Look at a Heavy Subject, by Terry Simpson, MD.  It's got some corny humor in it, but it gives you really good information and really tells you what to expect.  I liked Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, but I don't think it was as good. I took way too much stuff.  But my slip on (not needing to bend over and put on) slippers were wonderful!  Oh, and you may want a robe just to cover your back side for all of your walking... A pillow and comfy clothes (non-binding) to come home in are also key. Lori
