How do you take your B12?

With all the meds I already take for allergies and low thyroid, and then the acti-gall and anti-ulcer meds, I decided to learn how to give myself B12 injections so I only had to worry about it once a month.  I can't believe how easy it is.  I'm usually pretty squeamish, but the nurse showed me how to do it in the hospital and it's a piece of cake!  I gave myself my own B12 injection and then she had another med that I needed subcutaneously, so she let me do that too.  The little needles are so sharp, they don't even hurt.  So, if you are dreading having to do B12 under the tongue every day, I'd highly recommend it.  This, of course, is for RNY patients. Hi Linda, good for you! I take the sublingual B12s, and with my most recent bloodwork found out that I'm way tanked up on it, and my doc told me to stop taking it for a while. I was so paranoid about not getting enough, I overdid it!

I'm not sure Jo Ann - I was given the option of drops under the tongue or the shots, so I figured I'd go for the shots.  Once a month is so much better than every day, in my opinion!  Best check with your doctor and see what they recommend for you. Linda

I take my vitamin B complex with a great vitamin that I have been able to locate.  I talked to my Dr about that and most of them don't have a clue.  However, my DR is a person that believes in holistic medicine too.  You just have to find what works for you.  But one thing is for sure about this surgery:  eat as much protein as you can, make sure that you take all of your vitamins, drink your water, walk everyday no matter what, keep having a positive outlook if you can.  if you can't talk to the sisters on the line.  we are out here.  Nancy

HI Linda! I had surgery in 2003 and started B12 shots in the lower tummy area monthly. After 6 months I was at a support group meeting and our surgeon said he noticed patients were getting tired before the month's end and reccomended bi-weekly shots. I have done bi-weekly ever since and havent ever gotten a low rating on my test work for B12. Hugs! Liz

I've been using FitDay to enter all my food every day and it seems that I get quite a bit of B-12 from my food.  I'm sure I won't absorb all that, but I guess I'll wait and see how one shot a month goes for me.  Linda
