This morning as we were getting ready to go to my workout, my husband who had just put our 15 mo old son in the car,got in and started up the car,  I looked down the street, there was this lady coming down our street and she hit a cat trying to cross the street.  She got as far as our driveway, stopped, looked out her rearview mirror and sped away. This poor cat meanwhile was in the middle of the street fighting for it's life, we managed to get the lady's license plate number, this other woman was walking down the street, saw what happened and we managed to get the cat off the street and call police.  What kind of an idiot would do something like this?  It absolutely makes me sick. I saw the same thing happen but it was the car in front of me who hit the cat. I was devasted. I found out when I called the police that people are not legally required to stop if they hit a cat, but if they hit a dog it's another story. I was absolutely horrified!!!!  I don't know if this is the same throughout Oregon, but it makes no sense to me. I cannot understand someone who would do that and speed up!!!  I would like to think that our society has more compassion. It's disappointing to me that so many don't. I hope your 15 month old was too young to understand if he saw it. That is too young to be disillusioned.  Martha

Glad to hear there are others out there concerned with animals. I for one  have always stopped to help injuried animals . I can't believe how many people will drive or walk by an animal, cat, dog, bird, ect. One person said to me,"It's not my responsability", who's is it then. Cruelty. to animals goes beyond my understanding of people who do it . Carolee

Peggy,  I am so sorry that you had to be a witness to that kind of thing.  I have lost many cats that way. Not because I am a complete fool about animal care.  It is just we came off of a full moon recently and you can't keep cats confined.  Those are the darlins of my life.  I feed them and they seem to find me.  Kind of like I have this invisible sign in front of my house that is only visible to animals anyway it says "she is good for a meal and a place to stay"  well what are you going to do with that?  Don't be discouraged.  It will all work out.  The goddess protects us all.   Nancy
