Hello! I'm having surgery with Dr Yarbrough on the 1st.Has anyone here gone to Eugene? I would like to find a support group in West Salem, I'm having Lap band. What is Rny? PB? I read them on the posts but not sure. Has anyone here had the surgery and had a thyroidectomy? I'm hoping this will be successful. My support person got upset because my insurance paid for my surgery and hers didn't. She is now not talking to me. I guess you learn who your friends are....

I didn't have surgery in Eugene, I had it in Corvallis. There are support groups in Salem, look at some recent posts on the Oregon board, they have been announcing them here. http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/OR/a,messageboard/action,r eplies/board_id,4839/cat_id,4439/topic_id,3352057/  I had the RNY or rather the Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass. Though, I'm not sure what PB is?  Sorry to hear about your "support" person. That really stinks! Good luck on your surgery! Less than 3 days!!!! Andi Edited to add a Salem support group thread

Tricia - I live in Eugene, but had surgery in Portland at OHSU.  I had to go to a Center of Excellence or my insurance wouldn't pay.  I'm sorry to hear about your support person.  Doesn't sound like she was much support.  Congrats on your surgery on the 1st.  My gastric bypass last Tuesday wasn't bad at all, and I hear the band is much easier.  Best of luck to you.  We're always here if you need some support.  I hope you find a group in Salem. Thank you for your email. I considered gastric bypass but I was too scared as I have had alot of stomach problems. I'm glad your surgery went well. I appreciate your email :o)

I looked into the band too, but chose the bypass.  Actually, I really liked the Duodenal Switch, but my insurance wouldn't cover it.  We all need to pick the surgery that suits us best -- I'm so thankful there are options for all of us out there! If I may, here's a suggested list of books to read:  Weight Loss Surgeries for Dummies, Exodus from Obesity, and Weight Loss Surgery:  A Lighter Look at a Heavy Subject.  I got them all on Amazon.com and they were a great help to me in knowing what to expect.  Especially that last book -- written by a doctor associated with Obesity Help, it has so much good information in it.
