OHSU patients - internet access?

This may seem really silly to ask, but can you get internet access in the hospital at OHSU?  I have lots of family and friends around the country (a couple even out of country) who will all be anxious to hear how I'm doing after surgery.  I was thinking of taking my laptop and having my niece bring it over to the hospital for me after surgery, so I can let everyone know I am fine.  I'm sure they probably have the whole place set up for wireless internet (much like the UO has), but can you sign onto it as a patient?  I thought I could set up an email list before I go so I can easily let everyone know how I'm doing. Hi Linda ,I don't know anything about the hosp that you will be going to I know at Lagacy there was a place in the coffe shop for people to plug into. The reason I got on here was to let you know I have been watching for your date . I wish you the best . I have been doing fine myself and ready to start eating some jr baby food this week ,real meals should be about the 6th week I am in my 4th week starting tomorrow. My weight when I started this thing was 259.8 and now I am 235 so down abit, and I feel better already. So good luck and let us know how it all goes. Yes, you can get access right in your room.  You just go to www.ohsu.edu and then click on the "connect" button.  The signal isn't always wonderful, but I didn't have a problem when I was inpatient. Tammy

Tammy,  What about cell phones?  Do we need to purchase a calling card, or can we take and use our cell phones?  Glad you answered the computer question because I had the same question. Thanks, Donna M.

There is a sign as you enter the floor saying you should turn your cell phone off.  But I had mine on and used it several times, in front of staff, with no problems. My husband said he did ask and was told there are sometimes machines that cell phones cause problems with but I didn't have any of those machines in my room.  Just ask the staff to make sure and I don't think there will be any problems. Thanks Tammy, That's a relief.  Can't live without that communication - both cell phones and computers.  I'm getting ready for my big adventure on Friday the 13th (I'm not superstitious)...I'll probably be in the hospital for a week, since I'm having an open revision to the RNY.  Once I'm feeling better, will have someone in my family take my lap top and cell phone to me.  I know my husband will forget to call someone. Thanks, Donna

This is GREAT!  It will make it so much easier to stay in contact with people.  Plus, what will I do without my OH fix for the day?  LOL Linda
