Hey guys      I have been looking at this site for the last year.I will keep my story short. My wife and I have jumped through all the insurance hoops and have an approval letter in hand.We started out with a Dr. in the puget sound area.We did all the prep work and set a date. Two weeks before the date,we found out the insurance will only pay out of network. We found another Dr. in Oregon area.Set a date and then the paper work came.Bad news.My insurance covers 100% but thr Dr. charges an additional $300 for each of us.They "forgot" to tell us about that!Plus the co-pay!Needless to say,we are on the hunt for another Dr. again.                  I am appealing to any of the Dr's office people on anyone else who might know.I have Cigna insurance and my company is based in Portland. My approval is only good until July 31st.I have called most every office i could find just to find out that they are not scheduling the soonest appt. till Aug. I am looking for a Dr. that might be able to fit us both on the sugery schedule in late July. Our dietary, psyc eval and information classes are done.We were both told we do not need a sleep study as we do not have symptoms.           Any thoughts you all might have will be greatly appreciated. As you can imagine ,this has been pretty emotional for us.Oh yeah, we are willing to drive up to 500 miles if we need to.Oregon,Washington orIdaho is fine.Maybe if there is an out of network Dr. out there we can get a discount after the insurance pays.Just a thought since the insurance pays quiet a bit more then the cash price              So much for keeping it short. Thanks for reading it!                                                                                  Bubba                     email    [email protected] or [email protected]

Hi - I'm not with a doctor's office, but have you explored the possibility of getting an extension from your insurance company?  I wish you both the very best. Linda

Bubba, I am not sure where you live in Oregon, but I had my surgery in Klamath Falls with Dr. Mirande.  You might check with them, to see if they could work it out.  Have you attended a support group meeting yet?  He requires that.  Julia

I'm a little bit confused by your post Bubba.  Sorry, I must be "missing" something or not understanding your post. Your state your insurance pays 100%.  So it is $300. each, plus a co pay to the Dr?  Other than that, it is covered 100%? Oh my, I know so many people that don't have any insurance or if they do, WLS is not covered. You are looking to get this done without paying a dime?  Surely  I'm mis reading something! Please don't take my post wrong.  It is just that I don't exactly understand your post.

I am not very politic about these issues so here it is from my viewpoint. sell your car, take out a heloc, borrow from your 401K (it's legal) Pay the money. Get the surgery. Sort it out later. tee

Yep,  ou are reading it right. My insurance covers all but the $100 each for the co-pay.The $300 is an additional fee the Dr. charges to pay some sort of internet fee and some " othrer sutff" they give us.Evereone who goes to this Dr, pays this fee.                  As far as my insurance goes,I do have very good insurance that will pay for it.I spend a lot of money for this good coverage.I just want to know everything that is required before I set another appt.                       I am currently in contact with the office in K Falls so we will see what happens after the 4th. I am just hoping{ praying} that there is an opening some where thet will work out for July.  Thanks a lot guys,Be careful not to trip over all the LBS you loose!                             Bubba

Geez - for a total of $800 you should be able to just re-finance the car or something.  I don't think that's an awful lot to pay. Linda

Hi Linda,   I'm new to this site. I noticed your from Eugene also. Good luck on your surgery Tuesday. I've just started my testing and have Dr. Umbach for my surgeon. How did you pick yours? Is there a lot of people from Eugene on here? Carol

My insurance paid but I was still responsible for 20% -- so I ended up paying about $4,000.  I think what the doctor is suggesting sounds perfectly reasonable.  I don't think I quite understand but I don't think it sounds too bad. I guess it boils down to how badly you want something. Lori
