Home from Portland
Randy & I had surgery on 6/20. Everything went well. I had to check into OHSU Hospital at 5:30 and before 7:30 I was on my way to the operating room. I was totally out before I got there.
Woke up in the recovery room and they asked my pain level on a scale of 0-10. I was a 5 at that time, but with meds it quickly went down to about a 2-3. By the next day I was telling them I really had no pain, just soreness. Was up and walking the hallways and then napping. We were both discharged Friday a.m. Randy had a bad night Thursday, a reaction to medication with fever, but was looking good Friday. We both wanted to go home and felt ready. Randy's wife Bobbie, his sister, mother, son and daughter-in-law were all there to offer us support.
I shared a room with another RNY patient & had an okay view from my window. Randy had a private room with a terrific view. All of the staff treated me very well. Plenty of attention and info on post surgery recovery.
Even though I knew I would want much less to eat post-surgery, it still comes as a bit of a surprise to a food-addict to find out she is not in the least hungry and fills up on a couple of bites. It takes me all day to get down the necessary amount of liquids and my various pills and vitamins.
Here at home, I walk, drink and sleep. All seems to be progressing well so far.

Shirley - I'm so glad to hear you are doing so well. I keep thinking that it can't be possible that my hunger will go away. I had to be on steroids for my back last week and my hunger just went out of control! I just hope it calms down so I don't gain back my pre-surgery weight loss. I am so looking forward to not being hungry. I also hope I have a great recovery like you. I'm so happy for you. Keep up the good work!

Hi Linda,
I am doing very well. Been busy with work so kinda just been lurking. lol.
The ulcer is healing up well, at least I think so ... no more pain so thats good. I have one more week on the carafate and then I can stop it.
How are you doing? How is the back doing? Are they doing physical therapy for it or thinking surgery? I hope you are doing okay and on the mend.
Congrats, Shirley! I know you feel good, and that is great, but make sure you take good care of yourself, get plenty of rest, and be aware of how your little pouch is feeling each day, compare to another day. Report anything that seems different. I can only encourage this, because of some of my own personal experience. OHSU, Dr. Deveney and his staff is just wonderful if you have to call in to Susan with Questions or call on the week-ends for emergency help. Don't hesitate if you need to call.
I am so glad that you have had a good experience so far....and I am with you, I am continued to be amazed at how little I eat and what a little appetite I have. I don't even crave anything at this point. It's so weird!
Take care!
