Well I worried for nothing....lol I had never seen the Dr. (New Insurance) anyway went for my appoint with him to get the referral for Baratric surgery and he asked a lot of questions, He also asked for my family history, And then said he would be referring me to the Sever Obesity Evaluation and Management portion of my journey (Sunnyside Kaiser). I also had to have a couple of my labs redone…Low Potassium (Not super low but he wanted to check into it).

One step closer on Kaisers plan to my RNY. Thanks all for the advice to have done my research before the appointment and have a list of diets I had tried and failed. I also am glad that you all mentioned to know what surgery my insurance covers and how it is done. The Dr. was impressed that I knew it was an Open RNY and that I was able to give him my views on it as opposed to a couple other procedures.

All in all I just believe that me being prepared made him more confident to send the referral....lol now I can start worrying if insurance will see that it is medically necessary and weather I pass Kaisers screening process in the Obesity evaluation/management portion of my journey :)

Hello - I have a quick question for you, since you work @ Kaiser-Sunnyside... Not that this would be horrible or anything, but I was wondering if you still have to share a room w/someone after the surgery?  I've read the reviews on Kaiser-Sunnyside (on this website), and all previous patients mentioned they had to share rooms.  The reviews were from YEARS ago, so I just am not sure if that is still true?   Just curious... Gretchen

Hi there!   I'm going into see my PCP @ Kaiser-Sunnyside June 28th to get a referral to the bariatric program....  She has already mentioned the surgery to me (that I would qualify), but I declined - still in the mindset that I could do it on my own, "if I really wanted to."  But, now I DO want the surgery BADLY!!!  So, I'm not really nervous about getting the referral--but I am nervous about many other things!  So, soon I will be on the same path you are (with Kaiser anyways)...I'm sure it would be helpful to have a buddy to go thru this with!  I will be registering for the "Freedom from Diets" couse that starts July 30th.  (The mandatory course Kaiser has you take before the surgery.)   Will you be registering for the same class up in Washington?  I guess it's $150...

mommy3x most likely you will have a shared room after your surgery., I spent about 4 hrs in recovery waiting for a room.  You will be lucky if you get a private room. Peggy
