Someone in the Medford Area to talk to
I am interested in the Lap Band. Talked to the clinic in Coos Bay (Can't remember their name at the moment) They are sending me info. They recommended this site for questions.
Is there anyone in this area, Medford, that would be willing to talk, face to face, with me about the process. After reading the posts I see there is more to it than Robin (from the clinic) had time to tell me about.
I have questions about the pre-diet and the post diet.
I am impatient, I will get a consultation appointment, but would like to talk to someone who has been through it that doesn't have a monetary involvement.
Thank you for replying. I have been laid up the last few days. Had laser surgery on eyes and they put contacts in to protect for a few days. It seems that I have THIN lense and they couldn't do the common LASIK type correction. I celebrated having a thin body part.
I am not sure what a RNY is.
I am about 70# over by my calculation.
I have been in touch with Coos Bay, Bay Bariatrics. Waiting for some more literature.
Southern Oregon Bariatrics says I have to be !00# over. They have seminars here at the Smullen center.
I would like to talk to you.
Are you happy?
How does the change in eating fit into your activities?
The thought of having a smaller stomach is appealing to me. I \have a great appetite and ability to put away alot of food before feeling full.
Better go, My eyes need a rest.

I am your neighbor over in Klamath Falls. I am going to be getting the lap band on 6/25/07 by Dr. Mirande over here. He has an excellent background with his patients. He also gives seminars frequently about weight loss surgery over in Medford at the Red Lion. Call 1-888-789-5483. The seminars are very informative and they will answer many many questions. He didn't require a pre-diet for me, but I am dieting anyway just to get the ball rollin'. The post diet starts at a 6 week program. 1st week: Clear liquids only, 2nd wk: full liquids, 3rd wk-puree then on to soft foods and finally solids. If you have any other questions, just give me a holler. Leslie
Thank you so much for responding to my inquiry. I have been laid up some because I have had laser surgery on eyes to correct vision. They had to do the more invasive procedure be because, I can't believe this, the only thin place on me is my eye lense. So I am wearing a hard contact for a few days until it heals more. It is scratchy but I can see better than I did. Hurray!!!
This is the year of getting myself in better shape and getting whatever help I need. I am 59, started gaining 15 years ago and yo yo-ed very since. I am 70# overweight by my calculation...91# by their chart. (I would look anorexic by their chart) The bariatric center here says I have to be 100# over to qualify. That's discouraging.
I have contacted the clinic in Coos Bay. They want $10,000 base cost then test and appointment add ons. Why can't it be a set amount?
How did you find your doc in K Falls?
Do you have any recommended reading?
What are your biggest concerns?
I have friends in Chiloquin.
Write me when you can after your surgery. I am interested in how you are doing.

Hi Kandy~
Sorry it took so long to get back to ya. Busy, busy...anyway....Dr. Mirande is an outstanding surgeon in K-Falls and I have never heard a bad thing about him, so when I found out he does bariatric surgery....well, the rest fell into place. You don't have to be exactly 100lbs overweight. You can have a BMI of 35 or more, but must have at least 2 comorbidities like high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, reflux, joint pain, etc. Dr. Mirande will not do surgery on anyone over 60. So, at 61....he won't do it because of the risks involved. So, don't put things off too long. Here is the nice thing. Dr. Mirande is offering a package deal of $9999.00 for the lapband. There are no hidden costs. This includes all your pre-op testing (ekg, blood work, esophagram, etc), it includes a visit with the nutritionist, one visit requirement by the phsycologist and after the surgery it includes up to two fills for your lapband. He does charge a one time consultation office fee to see him the first time of $200. The package price is awesome...it does not include any complications that you may come across in surgery like having to spend more time at the hospital. The best thing too...is that he is so close in case you ever have any complications. THis was peace of mind for me. Well, tomorrow is my surgery, so I'm gonna go get packed. Take care and please write if you have any more questions. Leslie
