I got approved by my insurance last Friday and yesterday Dr. Jan's office called to schedule my surgery.  They orignal scheduled me for July 6th but then called back later saying they needed to bump me up a week.  So now, my surgery is scheduled for June 29th.  I'm so excited and a little scared.  It's been a long journey but now in two short weeks my life will change!

Yippee!!!  Congratulations!!!   How exciting!!  My stomach would be filled with butterflies!  Hee hee....   Hopefully by this time next year - if not sooner (one can hope) - I will be excited and nervous for the same reason!!  Take care, and have a speedy recovery! Gretchen

Congratulations!  I've been praying that someone would cancel at OHSU and I would get bumped up, but so far that hasn't happened.  I guess the end of July will work fine anyway.  I'm so excited for you.  Check back and let us know how it goes! Linda

I like the idea of calling it a new birthday......I am making progress on my journey too.  Went to the seminar at OHSU Monday evening, and have one more visit to make, Legacy.  Then I will make my decision as to which place to persue.  I have made my appointment for my physical with my PCP, and stopped by today to drop off the lab work requirements.  Figure they must be similar at both places, that way my PCP can have that information at his fingertips.  It was also suggested that I bring that information sheet from OHSU to my physical appointment, so he can just dictate the necessary information into one report.  I am making progress....still debating which surgery I want to have.   Did receive in the mail today, the book that you suggested.  Weight Loss for Dummies.  Have started reading that too.  This is all just so exciting!  BTW, how is your back doing?

Hi Brandon - It looks like you are certainly doing your homework!  Good for you.  I really enjoy the Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies and go back to refer to different parts every now and then.  I had another friend suggest another book, Weight Loss Surgery:  A Lighter Look at a Weighty Subject.  It's written by a doctor who is associated with Obesity Help.  I'm going to check and see if they have it at Borders -- I have a gift certificate there. My back is not doing well.  I had an MRI this morning, so hopefully, by my appointment time on Friday, I will know if I have disc problems or not.  If there are no disc problems, I'm off to the chiropractor.  If there are disc problems, I'll probably see Dr. Karasek -- he injects discs to help shrink them and relieve the pain -- much better than surgery if it works!  I need to get back to moving! I know what you mean Linda!  I BEGGED Terra to put me at the top of her cancellation list.  She was sympathic but said that EVERYONE wants to be at the top of this list...and to dream on, no one cancels!  I still kept my fingers crossed though! Tammy
