6 months postop ... WOW
I still cannot believe that it has been six months already. Boy how time flies when you are having fun ... lol
Anyhoo, I had my 6 month postop visit on Tuesday and I am down 102 pounds and have shrunk an amazing 51 inches .... 12 inches from the hips, 11 inches from the waist, 10 inches from the chest, 6 inches from the bust, 9 inches from the thighs (combined) and 3 inches from the arms & neck. I combined the thighs and the arms/neck because I did not measure them from the beginning and so the numbers were a little smaller. I just cannot believe it has only been 6 months,
Surgeon says I am right on track and doing great. I asked him what his goal was for me and he said he didn't really have one but did say that I've already lost half of my excess weight. I told him that I'd like to get down to 180 and he thought that sounded reasonable and very do-able.
Only sad note is we think the ulcer is back. I was in the ER on Monday night into Tuesday morning with severe pain in the epigastric area. Well by the time I finally see the ER doc the pain is almost gone but he gives me a GI ****tail and that takes care of the rest of the pain. I am back on the carafate and I think I am going to ask to be switched over to Protonix ... it seems as though that works better and is more widely prescribed for us for the acid suppression.
Other than that, things are going great ... I am rambling, sorry ... just so excited!!!
Hey Kim, that is WONDERFUL!!! More than 100 lbs. Don't forget to ask OH for your Century Card to be posted on your profile.
I'm sorry however that it appears your ulcer is acting up. Isn't it interesting that before surgery I had many issues with foods I couldn't eat because of acid, but now nothing seems to be off limits except for greasy foods and....I shouldn't be eating them anyway and they don't even sound good to me......well ok, MOST of the time they don't sound good to me. LOL
Looking forward to meeting you sometime soon.
Trisha
Thanks, Trisha. The scary part about this is that 40% of all ulcers in RNY patients, there is no pain associated with it. You don't even know you have one until it perforates and you start bleeding. One of our surgeons spoke about ulcers at one of our support group meetings. Thankfully mine isn't bleeding.
Hope to see you next weekend at the BBQ.
Wow Kim, you are doing so excellent! I've been taking Prilosec OTC since I had my upper endoscopy -- I had a suspicious spot (they thought it might be Barrett's Esophagus, but it wasn't), so I thought why risk any more irritation? I hope they find something for you that will keep the ulcers at bay. Did you have to have one of those H-Pylori bacteria tests pre-surgery? I don't know how effective they are at determining if you will be prone to ulcers anyway.
So, keep up the good work and get that tiny little tummy healed!
