Successful surgery yesterday, May 18th
Hello everyone! This is Dan, Kristal's husband. She had her bypass surgery yesterday, and wanted me to post an update here for her.
She was the first scheduled surgery of the day yesterday, at 7:30 am. A couple of hours later, she was in recovery, and then moved up to her regular room around 1:00. The surgery went very well, no complications. She was very sleepy most of yesterday afternoon, and made good use of the button that controls her pain medication. By evening she'd been able to get up and make a walk to the door of the room and back.
Today she's been more alert and active. Her lung capacity is coming back nicely, the wounds look good, and she passed her leak test, which means that she's able to move on to her Stage 1 post-op diet. She's never been so excited to learn she could finally have a sip of water!
She's still somewhat tired naturally, but all in all it's been a textbook surgery and recovery thus far!

Thank you all for the thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. I got home yesterday and I am doing well. I am extremely sore but everyday I know I get better. I got out and walked to the end of our road yesterday (about 1/4th a mile). It only took me about 20 minutes : ) I haven't weighed since before my surgery, so I don't know what I have lost. I do know that the morning of surgery, I'd lost just over 7 pounds on the 3-day liquid diet. That made me excited. Well, I guess I should go take my small morning walk and then rest. Thanks again for all the support and encouragement!!
