Anyone in need of pool therapy in Vancouver?
If you don't already know the Vancouver Clinic at Salmon Creek (http://www.thevancouverclinic.com/Specialties/PhysicalMedicineandRehab.ashx?p=1145) has a a pool and offers several classes in the morning on Monday, Wednesday and Friday as well as personal physical therapy and pool therapy sessions at other times.
I go several times a month and they're talking about possibly closing down the pool sessions because there aren't enough people. I'm trying to recruit so I'll have a place to continue to go for my classes.
The group is small and the instructor is incredible.
If you have more questions, contact them or just ask me. I am also cross-posting on the Washington page.

They have a drop in session in the mornings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and then you could also get a private session with an actual physical therapist (which would be covered by insurance) if you did get a prescription. Then they'd work with you more on an individual basis for time in the pool.
The pool is great because they keep it a bit warmer than other pools (to help arthritis patients) at about 96 degrees. Its also small (14 x 14 I think) so only about 6 people are in a class at any one time.
So, to answer your question, no, you don't necessarily need a prescription. It depends on what level of care you need. The person who teaches the morning classes is actually an athletic trainer but, because she's not taken the physical therapy assistant classes (technically she's more "educated" than what is required for the assistants but insurance doesn't recognize her skill) she can't technically do the prescription people and have them covered by insurance. She is very skilled at working with everyone's physical limitations and has incredible tips. Love her (obviously, lol).
