I meant to post this last week on Thursday when I found out but I completely forgot that I didn't do it. Anyway, when my son went in for his consult with Dr Umbach, Kathy told me that Dr Gorrin is leaving???? I guess his family did not adjust too well to our climate and wants to go back to CA. I am soooo bummed that he is leaving. He is such a great man and a wonderful surgeon. He has changed many lives in the Eugene/Springfield area. He will definitely be missed. I guess he is leaving mid-July.

Aw Kim - this is a real loss for Eugene. I was so hoping that the Eugene Bariatric Center would get its Center of Excellence certification and their operation (no pun intended) would really take off in this area. That will be difficult if they are down a surgeon, especially such a good one. Linda

Yes, this is very sad for us. However, I don't think it will have any bearing on their center of excellence as they have a 3rd surgeon and he has been with the group for several months now (since before Christmas). The last time we talked about it at one of the support groups, it sounds like they are pretty close and I am sure with Dr Yarbrough being the secondary surgeon, it should not slow down that certification. I am sure they will still take off just fine without Dr. Gorrin but he will definitely be missed.

That is too bad. On the other hand it is refreshing to hear of somebody making a huge decision like that because of his family! I respect that a lot!! It would be cool if Eugene got thier COE, but they have been telling me they are close since last July so I'm not holding my breath. Bil

I agree Bil. Also, one part of the COE certification is based on how many procedures are performed at the location within a year. I imagine it will be harder to reach that minimum with only two surgeons as opposed to three. Linda

I too am very saddened of this news. What a great man and surgeon. He brightened so many of my days personally. A true loss indeed. I'm glad he's putting his family first though. It continues to speak highly of him. Thanks for sharing the news Kim. Darla

Hi Kim, I am very sad about him leaving. I got a letter today telling me he was leaving on July 15. I have my six month check up on July 13. At least I get to say goodbye. I am so glad he did my surgery. Is your son going to have the surgery? Pam

Hey Pam, You look GREAT!! I am so terribly sad to see him go but, as Darla said, at least he is doing what his family would like to do ... sounds like he is a great family man. I am also very glad that he did my surgery. He will so be missed. I have my 6-month appt next week on Tuesday. My son had his consult, psych eval, and saw Karlyn. He has been presented to the surgeons and approved and has also been sent off to the insurance. We are waiting to hear back on that. Then he needs to go through the nutrition classes. He has done well with losing weight and has already lost 3 of his 8 pounds needed. I would really like him to get his done before Dr Gorrin leaves, but not sure yet.
