I have been reading posts on this site for about 9 months and have recieved alot of great information. I am having rny on June 4th. I am wondering how long it will take to recover. I'm 31 years old and work as a caregiver. The time I take off will be unpaid. (AHHHH!!) They said 4 to 6 weeks. Does it really take that long before you can return to work? Take care all. Carrie

Hi Carrie, I think it depends on what you do. If you were sitting in a chair in an office then you can go back pretty quickly as you feel that you can. But if being a caregiver requires lifting and being fairly physical you will want to be really healed. I'm 3 weeks out from lapband surgery and while I feel pretty good, I still can't do any lifting or straining. You don't want to undo what you've waited so long for. Not being paid is really hard and probably scary too. I hope you've got someone to help take care of you while you're healing. I wish you the best of luck tho. Debbie

Yes I definately dont want to go back to work to quickly and hurt myself. My husband will be on summer break a couple days after my surgery, so it will work out perfect. Thank you for your reply. Congrats on your surgery! And take care! Carrie

Carrie, I don't know how much lifting you do in yoru caregiver job, or how many pounds you lift doing that job, but I wouldn't push the limits at all, as I don't think you would want to disrupt anything including the healing process. It is typical of a caregiver to want to get back to doing your job, but I hope you take the time to take care of yourself too! Gesch (ps, my advice is almost meaningless, since I haven't had surgery yet! LOL)

I do care in my clients homes. All of them ambulate on their own, so I dont have any lifting. Except myself lol. Thank you for your reply. Carrie

Carrie: Congratulations on your June 4th date. I am almost 9 months out, my husband took 1 month off work to care for me and our now 1 yr 1 week old twins. ( he has 6 weeks vacation each yr). He has been a tremendous support to me while I healed. I could hold the babies, but could not lift them. It is getting harder now that one now weighs 23 lbs and the other 21 lbs. Peggy

Thank you and congratulations on your surgery. Wow that must of been hard for you to have surgery when your twins were so young. You are lucky to have such a supportive husband! Take care. Carrie
