George, it is a combination. The insurance companies take their own sweet time and Dr. Patterson's is a busy place. I was fortunate to have insurance that Dr. Patterson's office knew well so I was able to get right in and get things done without much wait but I have heard of people having to wait months for the insurance company. You might try calling the insurance company to make sure they have all they need and offer to do whatever it takes it get it thru. You know that old saying, "the squeeky wheel gets the grease". I've been known to be a squeeky wheel when I am dealing with important issues. Good luck. Kathy

Hmm - I don't know how Dr. Patterson's office does things, but I had to have my psych evaluation and nutritionist's appointment before I got my paperwork submitted to BCBS for approval. Now I'm just waiting to hear. My surgery will be at OHSU. Linda

Hi George, I have BCBS and had to get everything done (psych eval, sleep studies, etc.) before the request was sent to insurance. That process took about 4 months. Once the request was sent in though, BCBS sent approval in just 3 business days! It was another 2 1/2 months or so before surgery. I had my surgery at OHSU on April 3. Good luck to you! Sally

BC/BS took me quite a while. I have to agree that it is the combination of factors that is taking so long. Give your insurance a call and see what they say! Lori

Hi George. I don't have BCBS but I too had to have all the stuff done before it was submitted to insurance. Only 1 week for approval after that. I am 16 weeks out and down 59 lbs. Good luck..... Lisa

George, I have BCBS and once I saw Dr. Patterson, it was about 3 weeks later that I was contacted to schedule my surgery. Once BCBS receives the approval request, they only took 3 days to approve; most of the time was waiting for her office to send the paperwork to BCBS. My surgery was scheduled about a week and a half out from approval. Basically, I saw her on March 15th and had my surgery on April 18th. Hang in there!
