It looks like my insurance which is Kaiser doesn't do the Lap band. It looks like I will have to have the RYN. I am 27 just had a baby 8 months ago but still want at least one more. I read that pregancy and RYN are dangerous. Is anyone pregnant or plan to become pregnant? Now I am really worried and bothered by this. Thanks

Amy - I'm way too old to be of child bearing age (plus I'm not missing some of the parts!), but at all of the info sessions I attended, the surgeons said they like you to wait at least 1-2 years after RNY (or any weightloss surgery) before becoming pregnant. You need to wait until your system stabilizes and you are sure you can get in enough nutrients before you have another baby. If you want another soon, you might consider waiting till after that child is born to have your surgery. Linda

Amy: Since you have Kaiser, you might want to call and talk to Mary Lou Greenwood the Bariatric program social worker there at Kaiser. Her number is 503 571-3082. She may be able to help you. Good luck, Peggy

Hi Amy, I had my surgery at 29 and only 9 months after having my first child. Everyone that I have talked to (including my OB) said that this was the best thing I can do for myself and any future children that I may have. But like the previous poster said you must wait 18 months to get pregnant. There is forum on here for pregnancy related questions so you may check there. I have heard of lots of healthy pregnancy's and babies post RNY. Hope that helps. Tara

I got pregnant 8 months after my surgery and I am doing fine. I have no problems and the baby is growing right on target. I have only gained 10 pounds and I am due June 4th. In the first trimester I lost weight and I didn't start to gain weight until I was 7 months. If you are worried about the baby gaining weight like I was I asked for a additional ultrasound to check the baby's growth, which they did at around 7 months.

Hey Amy... I had my rny 4.5 yrs ago, lost over 200lbs. I got pregnant at 16mos out had a PERFECT pregnancy(7lb 9oz 21in baby girl)!!! 3mos later I was pregnant again!!! Another fantastic success!!!(8lb 9oz 20in baby boy) My 1st baby I didn't really gain much weight and was starting to loose it when I got preggers again. Gained a little bit more with the 2nd but it's still coming off...I wasn't able to breastfeed as long as I would have liked...just couldn't keep up with the kiddos... Iron deficiency was the only problem I had and it was handled quickly and without incident...I watched my diet, kept very active and had a great Doc!!! You can be successful in both surgery and pregnancy!!! LOTS of luck!!! Deanna K

Thank you all for responding.... you have eased my mind.. I am so glad to hear that it can be done and mom and baby can be healthy. This pregnancy was unexpected.. I was 410# when I got pregnant. Everything was fine. I just NEVER looked pregnant. I truely need to have this surgery to be healthy for me. It's already hard to keep up with my little one. Even just getting up off the floor is a challenge at this point. I will plan to have my surgery and then wait for the next baby. If I wasnt MO I would want another right away but I need to take care of myself first. I am new to this site and did find the post-op pregnancy part. Thank you all.. I hope to be sharing soon about my WLS.

I had RYN almost 7 years ago and I lost 119 lbs. and I have kept it off.  Fourteen months after I had RYN, I found out I was pregnant with my 3rd child.  I gained 33 lbs. during my pregnancy and all went well.  Dr. Tersigni, my  weight loss surgeon, came in for my scheduled C-section.  He is the best!  I really didn't have any problems with the pregnancy in regards to RYN.  I was able to lose the weight I gained pretty easily.  I wouldn't hesitate to have the surgery again!  Good luck!
