Hi everyone, I am coming back to Portland for one of my checkups and there is usually a motel I stay at but they are booked for the time I need. So I am looking for some help from others that live in the Portland or surrounding areas. Does anyone know of a nice (please no creapy places) to stay? I can't afford a huge amount cause I will be there for 3 nights but I don't want a place that is nasty either. Also, if it has a continental breakfast that would be great and that would save on at least one meal a day for my husband. Any help you can give me would be great. Michelle

My Family stayed at new Country Inn & Suites by airport while I was at OHSU. Driving to hosp. a tiny bit tricky but they gave excellent directions. Go to their site....VERY NICE and FULL breakfast....NICE rooms! 7025 NE Alderwood Rd Portland, OR 97218 (503) 255-2700 33 reviews

Michelle, You may want to check out the OHSU website. If you go to this link: www.ohsu.edu/health/page.cfm?id=9948 there are a number of nearby hotels and motels that have special OHSU rates. Some even have a shuttle bus that will bring you up to OHSU. Tammy

As Tammy indicated, ask if the hotel you are looking at has an "OHSU" rate. When my wife surfed to find a couple places to stay around OHSU, several asked if she was a patient or family of a patient. I'll try to get you the name of the hotel my wife stayed at when I was at OHSU. The night before my surgery we stayed at the Travelodge, which was close, but we didn't like it very much. After the surgery she stayed a couple nights at another place and got a reduced rate because I was a patient. Lots of places to stay, depends on how far you want to drive. Mike

I am coming over to have some tests done at Legacy not OHSU. I know there are some places that give a Legacy rate but the rate is still like $85 and up + tax. The drive doesn't really matter I would just like to find a place that is affordable (I am staying 3 nights) and not a place you feel creapy about laying in the bed. Thanks.

Hi Michelle: My co-worker and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. It was not very far from the hospital and I think on Vaughn Street. We went across the Fremont Bridge and it goes right by the front door. I want to compliment you on how well you have done. I was following your profile on line when I first thought about this surgery, Since you were from Eastern Oregon I thought we had something in common with distance from Portland, etc. I had my surgery in December and as of this morning am down 75 lbs. Look forward to breaking that 100 lb mark and maybe get into those size 12 pants. Although a 16 feels like I am the smallest person on the planet !! Another thought about motel rates, sometimes a government rate is cheaper. Since you work for a State agency, maybe that would be the best bargain. I work for a County and always check on that also. I don't think you have to be on official business to inquire about that rate. Jeanne
