OT: Not WLS Related -- Need Ideas for Niece's Party
Lori,
You mentioned you will try to come Sunday - I can give you lots of ideas then. I just went through the party years with two girls. I will think of some of my tricks.
A Barbie cake is always pretty fabulous. Albertson's makes a good one. I'd be happy to donate one. For one of my parties of that theme we painted a princess face with big princess lips on a huge cardboard. We came up with paper frogs and played pin the frog on the princess lips as a play on the princess kissing a toad. We've taken a big box (like from an appliance) and cut a hole the size of a face in one side and cut a big entry hole on the backside. Then we drew a clown on front of the box so it was like when you put your face through a hole and look like you are the clown. Then nice daddy got in stuck his face through the hole and let people try to throw a pie and hit him in the face. We used paper plates with shaving cream, but that stung daddy's eyes...so the next year (yes he's a real sport) we used squirt whipped cream. The kids thought this was a scream. Water balloon tosses are fun. I liked decorating crowns with glitter, ribbon, markers, etc. I cut them from poster board the shape of the ones they used to have a burger king. Then just stapled them to size at party. I don't recommend decorating them at the event as an activity - I find over ambitious activities end up being kind of a drag for either the kid or the adult. Like someone said - simple is fun. Just being at a park is great.
Congratulations on her continued good progress!
Patty
Great ideas. I'll try to make it Sunday morning.
I knew everyone would have great ideas and you've all given me more to think about. I definitely agree that simple is best so the key for us now is consistency. Simple also makes it better for any other kids who may be going through chemo to be able to attend -- since we need to be concerned about their immunity, strength and dexterity. And we love the park since it has play structures, hiking trails and picnic areas. And a covered picnic shelter in case the weather decides it doesn't agree with us, lol!
We are so proud of her and her incredible attitude through all of this (even though she hasn't had much of a choice).
