Do any of you drink "real" coffee?

Hello ladies I had RNY on March 28th in Eugene so that makes me only 17 days out. I feel great, other than the lack of energy at times. I really miss my two cups of coffee in the mornings. Did any of you try coffee this early in the game? I'm kind of afraid to try it although I have done pretty good with the foods I have tried. Lyndie

I work night shift so I NEEDED coffee when I went back to work which was 3 and 1/2 weeks after surgery. I made a deal with myself that because I know that it is a natural diuretic I would replace it with extra water. The first day that I drank it it was a miracle!!! I had so much energy and felt great!!! You may only need one cup now though....

It is a myth that we can't drink coffee after surgery. I wi**** were a diuretic cause then I wouldn't still be taking my "water" pills. Coffee is actually GOOD for you because it enhances the ability of your liver to rid itself of the excess fat and repair itself from that, if you do not already have severe damage to your liver from obesiity. So....bottoms up! (get the good stuff, though. Stumptown is the best in thispart of the world, but any freshly roated coffee is good) tee

Hi Lyndie, I hate to burst your bubble but I had surgery in Eugene too with the same docs and we cannot have caffeine. It is one of the things on the list to avoid. The reason we cannot have caffeine is because it can cause ulcers. I am almost 5 months out and have had an ulcer about 2 months or so ago, not due to caffeine though. I definitely would not want to drink something that can cause or contribute to an ulcer. Good luck to you.

Yes, I do NOW, but I waited 6 months before having my first cuppa joe on advise of my surgeon's office. Even now I will take it as a latte so that it has the milk in it AND I count it as my "breakfast" because of the milk. Often times I add a bit of unflavored protein powder to it as well. I also drink my lattes about 4 days a week--not every day. I hope this helps you with your decision. IF you are prone to ulcers I would definately avoid the caffine. Trisha
