Less than 10 to goal and getting nervous

Hi all, I am coming up on my 5 month anniversary (4/15) and as of today I'm down 68 pounds. I went in to this a lightweight, needing to lose 77-80 lbs. I am now 9 lbs. away from my stated goal of 125 lbs. I have been to several websites to help me calculate my goal weight (ideal weight), and I'm in the range with 125. Some say I can go as low as 110 with a small frame. Funny I never thought of myself as having a small frame, lol, but according to measurements I guess I do. I'm 5'4", but have scoliosis, so I really have the frame of a 5'6" person. I've only plugged in 5'4" into the calculators. My nervousness has to do with wondering if I am going to lose too much weight. I am prepared to go a bit low and then bounce back up once I stabilize. But I'm only out 5 months and was told the losing period is anywhere from 18 to 24 months. I've gone from a size 18W to a loose size 8. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did you lose too much and what did you do to gain? Just try to eat more calories? I am so thrilled with my success, but as the weight just keeps coming off, I am starting to worry. It seems like it is not slowing down. I've still been losing over 10 lbs. a month.

Wow! You have done great, Kim!!! I was also concerned about losing too much. I went under goal, but I have adjusted my intake just enough to maintain my current weight. I had to play with the calories, et****il I found what worked for me. I now weight myself once a week and adjust my eating accordingly. The losing period is just a window. It doesn't mean that you will continue to lose weight during that time period. We need to get together so I can see the new you! Joy

What kind of surgery did you have? I guess what you do to stop losing weight depends a lot on what kind of surgery you had. For example, if you had an RNY, you would just break the pouch rules, graze, drink with meals, etc. If you had the DS, you could add more carbs and add some sugars in....etc. I am 16 lbs below my doctor's goal, 8 lbs. below my personal goal, and at the lower-middle end of normal for the bmi charts, wearing a size 2. Still, I feel healthy, so while I am trying to stabilize, I am not worried about it yet. I am trying to eat more often, and eat more calories. I guess if I don't stabilize soon, the next step for me is digestive enzymes. Let me know what kind of surgery you had, and maybe someone will be able to tell you how to put the brakes on a little.

Thanks for your reply. I had a surgery called the Mini Gastric Bypass. It is where the stomach is bisected and the new small stomach gets a new exit that hooks into the intestine 6 feet down. There is only one connection. I have been eating more carbs, not much though, as they tend to gie me gas. But I have pasta, rice or bread almost daily. My problem is, my protein intake has suffered because of that. I'm thinking I'd be better off to get my protein back up and not eat so many carbs if it is a matter of how much I can get in. When I get to goal, I will be in the middle of the normal range for BMI. So I have some built in cush. I can lose 24 more pounds before I approach the low end of normal.

hmm, I have no idea about the mini gastric bypass. Have you talked to your surgeon about it? It would probably be a good idea to talk to him now, not wait until you are at goal so that you can start slowing things down a little more. Have you asked on the Mini Gastric Bypass boards? It sounds like you kind of have like an RNY pouch, could you drink with meals, and wa**** through quicker, therefore you would be able to eat more often? How about grazing throughout the day?

I have a message in to my dr. I have a feeling I will just go beyond my goal, at least a bit, and then bounce back. That is what normally happens anyway. I do drink a little with my meals now. I have also started to introduce some carbs (rice/pasta) into my day. However I have to keep it pretty low because of the gas. We will see what my surgeon has to say. Thank you for your response.
