My sister is considering doing the lap-band and being a self-payer. Does anyone out there know of someone here in Oregon who does the lap-band with a discount to self-payers? Around $10,000 for example.

Nola, I think the hospital in Coos Bay does LapBand for about $10,000. Sometimes I think about whether I should have saved $12,000 by going there, but I wanted all my care to be 30 miles or less from home (10 minutes from where I work). Jackie

I am also self-pay and have scheduled my first appointment with Dr. Tersigni at Bay Bariatric for April 18 and hope to have surgery in May. It is in Coos Bay so that is a 4 hour drive for me but the procedure is $10,000 and includes the first three fills. He also moves quicker than the hospitals in my area. I am a little concerned about the drive but, from what I hear, this doctor is very experienced and competent and for me, saving $15,000 is worth it. I just need to commit to driving to Coos Bay about once a month (totally doable). Let me know what she decides! Chrissy

The drive to CB is actually quite nice. I love it! It does get a bit long. Don't forget you may be able to fly, too, if you find it is a better cost for your time (you know, be able to fly down and back in one day which may save you less than driving, hotel stays , etc.). Be careful along Highway 38 -- there can be quite a few rock slides. Wait, I don't mean to scare you -- just be aware of the possibility (especially during the rainy seasons). I would love to move down there (I have family in the CB area). Good luck! Lori

Nola - I have seen several posts on OH about Dr. Tersigni in Coos Bay. Lots of people seem to like him and it is only $10,000 for the lap band. Linda

Nola, I went to Dr. Tersigni in Coos Bay and he is just wonderful! I had the RNY and have had no problems, Dr and his staff are all just great, answer all your questions, I cannot say enough about these wonderful people that helped me on my journey. The hospital staff was great as well. Chrisy
