Hi Everyone! Just checking in. I had an interesting thing happen to me. Ive been having trouble getting in all my water and protein. I was also having a lot of trouble with digesting my drink and food. I would get sick quite abit. So, Dr. Hong, i called him a few times on call, with this problem. So, when i went up to see him the other day for my follow up, he took one look at my journal and said, i wasn getting enough liquids and stuff down me, so he insisted on doing an endoscopy on me the next day and found i had some scar tissue built up in the opening of my stomach and the opening was narrowing shut. so he went in and put a balloon in there to stretch it out. Has anyone else had this problem? So, now, its back to liquids again for a week and then pureed foods. Yuk! KathyS

Hey Kathy, So glad you got to the bottom of your problem. I believe the problem you experienced is called a stricture and from what I have read and heard from other RY patients, it's more common than one would think. I have not experienced this myself, but my very good friend had to have the stricture "ballooned" three times before the new stomach/opening was streched enough to allow food and liquid to pass easily. Hang in there and don't be afraid to call your doctor if you experience the same symptoms again once on normal food, it's not at all uncommon to need the procedure more than once. Jenn

Hey Kathy- I've had mine stretched twice, and I was very grateful, as I had reached the point where I couldn't keep anything down. A small procedure for big results. Apparently, fat people are not supposed to heal fast, but I heal abnormally fast, so the second time I was stretched I only did liquids for a day! Worked like a charm. I was afraid it would slow down my weight loss because I thought they were stretching my pouch, but that was not the case. It only stretches the opening and I have lost 130 lbs in 9 months, so all is well. Hope your recovery goes well. Vikky

Hi Vikky, Yes, i was having a hard time digesting food or drink. Kept getting sick. I sure hope tho, that i dont have to have it done again. Now i have to be on liquids for one week, then pureed foods for the next week after that. My dr said that about six out of ten people usually have to have it done again at least twice. Congratulations on your weightloss. I hope i can lose that much in that length of time. It would be nice, anyway. lol. Im in my 8th week now. Just started my 8th week yesterday. I have lost 45 pounds so far. Of course, my scales say ive lost 50 pounds but the drs. scales say 45 pounds. So, who do ya believe? KathyS
