When is the Salem Hospital Support Group?

I went to the Salem Hospital today (Wednesday March 21st) to attend the WLS support group and was told that it took place on Tuesday the 20th, yesterday. I am kind-of disappointed. I really wanted to attend. I have gone back over the postings from my original post and see that some people have said Tuesday night and some people have said Wednesday night. Please help me with some clairification here. Thanks! Dre

Hi Dre, I think there are a few different support groups. There is the "official" one for Salem Hosp. patients only. I have been going to an unofficial one on the third Wed. of every month. But it does look like there is another unofficial one, which looks like it's held on Tuesdays. I went to the one last night but there wasn't a room scheduled and I didn't see anyone else there either. So I'm kind of confused, too! I'm sure someone else will have the answer. Hang in there! I didn't have my surgery in Salem but would like to attend a support group in Salem. I haven't been able to attend one yet and would like confirmation on a support group that meets outside of the one for Salem Surgery patients only. If you find out, please let me know. Thanks, Nancy

Hi, I work at Salem Hospital, had surgery at Salem Hospital and attend the support group there also. The group I attend was started by people that have had surgery here but it is open to anyone. It meets every other tuesday from 6:30-8:30 and has about 25 people that usually attend. It's usually held in the basement conference rooms. There is also a group that meets on the 3rd wednesday of every month. I hope that helps.

I keep hearing that there is a Wednesday group, but where was everyone yesterday and why wasn't there a room scheduled? I was at the COM building and talked with a lady who works there. She looked for me.???? Dre

I'm really sorry about the confusion. It's even confusing to me and I was there last Tuesday night~!!! #1. There is an "official" Salem Hosp group (for people who had their surgery at the Salem Hosp) that meets once a month on a Tuesday night. I am going to have my surgery at OHSU in Portland, and at the "official" meeting last month, was told I could no longer attend the "official" group - an announcement that was made to all at that meeting by the group facilitator. So::::::::::::: #2. A "non-Salem Hosp" group was formed. We met last Tuesday night at 6:30 at Salem Hosp in the COM Bldg in Conference Room 1. The room was on the SH room reservation schedule (I asked about a Wed. nite support group and no-one at that meeting had heard of a Wednesday night group.) #3. The "non-Salem Hosp" support group is going to meet at 6:30 every other Tuesday until Christmas in the same room - which has already been reserved. The next meeting is Tuesday, April 3. (I won't be there as that is my surgery date!) #4 I have the phone number of a contact person and will send it by personal mail to those of you who are wondering. #5. Everyone/anyone is welcome. Wow! We share a sugery date! Mine is April 3rd, at OHSU as well. Who is your surgeon? Mine is O'Rourke. Can you believe it's almost here!! I'm trying to figure out how to make it through this week! Ok, but I have to say, that there is indeed another "non Salem Hosp." group that does in fact meet the third Wed. of every month. I promise! I've been to it twice!! (And I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy ENOUGH to completely imagine that!) It's not in the COM, it's in the basement of the main hospital. The last few times though, a room wasn't scheduled, so the people there just gathered informally. I wonder if it's fizzling out? Hi Shondra! I can vouch for you ... you were at the Wednesday support group meetings! Either that or we're visiting each other in our imaginations! Ha, ha! I wonder if we should collaborate between the two groups and come up with a combined meeting? I wish they didn't meet on Tuesdays though because that is a bad night for me. Do you know what time on Tuesdays they meet? Cuz I could come at 7:00, just not any earlier. Also, where do they meet? Are you getting all excited for your surgery? It sure is coming up SOON! Deanna

Hi, I am looking for a support group either in Salem or the Independence, Dallas area. I will be having my surgery hopefully in June. I was told that I need to start attending a support group before I am to have surgery so I can have a group going when I get my surgery. Does it matter which group I attend.
