Anyone go to the hospital alone?

I posted this question on the main board, but wanted to ask here for people who have had their surgery at Good Samaritan Legacy. Is it okay if I go to the hospital alone to have the surgery. My family lives out of state and can't be there. I will have someone from work who is willing to come get me and take me home. Thanks, Diane

You shouldn't have a problem. My husband was there but didn't hardly do a darn thing, lol! After I got to my room he came in for about an hour (all I wanted to do at that time was sleep) he left and went home. Real help he was, lol! Who will drive you, though, or are you taking a cab/bus? Lori

I am a single mom and both parents are elderly. I had a friend drop me off and a co-worker pick me up. I was home alone for the first three days and then the kids came home. Being alone at the hospital was somewhat nice. I could rest as much as needed and not feel like I had to keep someone company. You will do great.

I really counted on the great staff that helped me while I was at Good Sam. My husband's visit was nice, but he was more effective keeping the home front running. Last year my husband couldn't avoid being out of town when my hysterectomy was scheduled. I drove myself there and didn't see anyone until he came to pick me up. It seemed so shocking to my out of town relatives, but it was really just fine!! I was really mostly resting, very drugged up. Let me know when you are here. I would be happy to come visit you. If you need a ride from the airport or any support please let me know. I really mean it. I live close to Good Sam and I am very familiar with where things are. Patty

Well I guess you won't be coming on a plane from Eugene. If I was going to Eugene though, I would feel like I was "out of town". My offer stands though....your not along here!

I thought I was going to have to go alone, but now have a new sweetheart who has promised to come and take care of me. Ah, life is so good. Linda

Diane, My hubby drove me up to Portland from Lincoln City for the surgery, stayed for the surgery and then 4 or 5 hours after (during which I slept the entire time lol) and had to go home. He came back to pick me up when I was released. The others are right (as usual! lol) being alone makes it easier to sleep when you need to, to look a fright and not worry, and to walk and walk at will. I also didn't have to worry about the home front either :P Good luck, and just believe that you will be fine! Michele (keeping my fingers crossed for you).
