Ok.....Can I ever have real coffee? I work night shift and I go back next week and I am starting to worry. Plus, I really would kill for an iced sugar free vanilla latte!!!! Is there any gastric bypass reason that I cannot have it.....even just a little one?!? Or is it off limits altogether?

Graveyard Coffee Queen here! My doc said no coffee for 4 or 6 weeks but that I was free to imbibe after that. No, I did NOT have to go to decaf. I roast my own coffee and enjoy it probably even more now than I did then. As for lattes, well, you can make your own and make it GOOD for you. How, you ask? Fred Meyer, Super Walmart and many other grocery stores sell Calorie Countdown Milk. It used to be called Carb Countdown. The milk makes an EXCELLENT latte or mocha. They have all the varieties: Skim, 1%, 2%, whole and chocolate. I like to get the chocolate for mochas...it's really rich and I love it more than any sugared chocolate milk. If you don't have an espresso maker, do a Google search for Aeropress and buy one. It makes espresso strength/quality coffee and can be taken absolutely anywhere, even camping. They run around $25-29 if you check the Froogle section of Google. I have one at work and one at home. I have an espresso machine too, but I use this pretty much exclusively now. Anyway, I brew my joe, then I microwave the milk or chocolate milk and combine. Now, here is the best part: Each 8 ounce serving has 12 grams of protein and only 2 grams of carbs. Now how is THAT for getting your protein in???? Dina

Hey deb, My doc said no coffee for a few weeks because it could encourage dehydration. I didnt have anything until just this week and made myself half a cup and took to sips. It just didnt seem as good as I remember. the sips did help me go to the bathroom which has been a problem for me but other than that I am sooo suprised how much I really dont miss it and I was a 2 cup every morning person come hell or high water. DEb I got one from GNC I love its called gold standard its a wey and the flaver is double chocolate, I LOVE IT!!! I use 1/2 cup milk and my hand mixer and its just like drinking a glass of chocolate milk. now that I am back to work I make a double batch in a measuring cup and pour it into a empty water bottle and nurse it all morning. there is 50 grams right there. no honestly this last couple of days was the 1st time I got a double batch down. Its funny but my portions are so small right how that I use a little dipping cup you get from a resturnat for my serving of soup and such If I do not measure ahead of time I fill over full and dont even realise I was ever full. I guess it takes time. go get that double chocolate stuff,, its great and 22 bucks for a big bucket of it
