I am so frustrated. I'm now approaching my 6month mark and still have 20lbs to lose. Does anyone know of anything else I could try to get me the rest of the way so that I can have surgery? Any ideas would help surely!

Hi Leslie, I followed a 1200 calorie diet very "religiously" and lost about 20 pounds. Here are the exchanges I used. Breakfast: 1 dairy or protein 1 starch 1 fruit Lunch 4 protein 1 starch 1-2 vegatables 1 fruit Dinner 4 protein 1 starch 1-2 vegatables 1 fruit And then I made sure that I didn't go over 1200 calories each day. It did work for me. Whatever you try, hang in there! If you're just finishing a 6-month plan that shows you have a lot of persistence. You can do it!! Sally

Hi leslie, I struggled with that as well and did not want to have to think or plan any meal for fear that I would say "Do-over starting tomorrow".... So I literally opened three lean quisine boxes and added a low cal dressing green salad to the dinner and called it good. I stepped up the activity a little bit too but nothing huge. Anyway it was probably about 1100-1200 calories a day and it worked. Funny thing is that it is working for several family members now too!!

Hi Leslie, May I ask where are you going to have your surgery? And who is your surgeon? I am sure that I will be having to do the 5% weight loss myself. Correct me if I am wrong, but doing the 5% weight loss makes our internal organs smaller so that they can do laproscopic. And yes, it really sucks that we have to do it despite everything. One suggestion is to do weigh****chers until you lose 20 lbs that's what I plan to do. Sheryl E.

Sheryl, I will be having my surgery through Legacy and my surgeon is Dr. Hong. The 5% weight loss is a condition of my insurance to approve the surgery. I've gone through the whole process for authorization but have this last hurdle to over come.

What about getting Dr. Hong to prescribe a liquid diet? You could also try one on your own. I lost the most weight when I was on liquids. So sorry your insurance requires this, though. I was only able to lose 1 pound and Dr. Jan had wanted me to try and lose 45. At least he went ahead with surgery and it wasn't an insurance requirement... Lori

I had called my Medicare Ins and asked them if I was going to be asked to lose weight for the surgery and they said no. So I think it is a test to see if you will be able to eat a cut portion of food like you will be doing after sugery. I got the request from the nutritionist. Good luck on your weight lose, the lean cusin sounds good to me I'll try that one. Jo Ann
