Ok on my 2nd stage of eating. soft foods.i just cant seem to enjoy anything right now. I have been having my proteen drink when I get up, thats ok but it takes me an hour or so to get it all down. I had some refried beans around lunch time and a little split pea soup this evenig, I feel like crap,, like a slug, I think the pain meds are slowing down my system so im a little constupated. I was so looking forward to this change and when I looked at my sheet of foods its not much different than the first 2 weeks except I dont have to puree. Oh Im just being a big baby tonight I guess. any Ideas on some good foods Im so bored with split pea soup and clam chowder. I swear I could just skip eating If I could just dosent do anything for me. Maybe that is the problem that food cant be the thing I love anymore? I do kinda miss it. hmmmm that is something to think about. Kelly the big baby!!!! LOL

Hi Kelly, Let me think.......mashed potatoes and gravy from KFC, egg drop soup, cottage cheese with a few blueberries? I know at the three week point (when I got my surgery that was the post-op visit when Dr. Hong much turned me loose to try anything) I was pretty sick of sweet things (mostly I think because of all the chocolate shakes) and wanted something savory and spicy and zesty!! I craved salad of all things. You've probably already done oatmeal and cream of wheat. It's like when I play that word game, suddenly I'm drawing a blank. I think there is something they can recommend if you are getting constipated, but I don't remember what it is. I'd call the office and ask. Take it from someone that has an appetite, can eat stuff and loves food again. This period has it's purpose and you have to ride with it. It does get easier, and as the food choices broaden you are able to fulfill that desire to be satisfied with something you ate. Little by little things normalize. I think back and remember being extremely nice to myself. I took lots of bubble baths, got pedicures (I had never had one before), stole away from the family for a movie only I would want to see, etc. It's so different than the struggle to fight hunger and try not to eat isn't it?!? Your doing great!! Patty

you are right patty it is different and its better. havent had much time to do me stuff. have to take jen in tomarrow for a nother spinal tap after going back to work. a hot bath sounds nice but they told us no baths at first but I bet I can now Im healing so wonderfully. I need breakfast with friends maybe we can get a group togather again soon. I have not done cream of wheat but maybe I will try it tomarrow. I know I signed on for this and its going to save my life I wonder about ice cream? Oh yea Water I suck at getting my water in. Before surgery I drank so much water it was always my choice before anything else now I struggle to get 24 oz in the hole day. What is up with that? Im dehydriated I know and I keep on myslef. just cant seem to drink often enough and when I do drink still only getting in few oz at a time. I hope that gets better as I really want to be healthy. I am going to call for something to help with constipation as I have gotten all the old stuff flared up. well girlfriend call me when you get time. I hope work goes well tomarrow I have gone in a few times for a few hours tomarrow I will go in at 8 leave at 12 to have jen at provdence by 1 for a the spinal tap her perssure in her head getting much worse. Dam I wish they could get this under control. She was such a life saver after surgery waited on me hand and foot. keep the house clean and fluids by my side along with a dose of crushed pain meds at all time. what a gal she is Kelly

I know the water sipping is hard to accomplish, but girl you've got to get more water in!! I am guessing that might be contributing to the constipation. Eventually you will work up to getting your number of protein grams and water oz. in daily, and most of us weren't able to hit those numbers the first few weeks. I tried to get 64 oz. of water but I set a minimum of about 40, because dehydration can be wicked in the ways in which it tells you it's there. Constipation, low blood pressure (which made me light headed upon rising) among other things. I am hoping that Jen's spinal does the trick and she feels the relief that she needs! Is she tolerating the Diamox and gone up in dose? Is she seeing an eye surgeon to monitor her retinas. That can be a way to check for signs of the pressure being elevated. Dr. Goodman in Lake Oswego is who my daughter goes to. She's been very supportive. She sounds like a sweetie. Hope it goes well and she's feeling better soon! Patty

yea she is up to 750 mg of the diamox and incresing weekly at this point. she seems to be tolerating it I just wi**** would work faster. her symptoms are better some days and worse others. when they did the tap today they said her pressure was not as bad as it was last time but her blindness is worse than it has been in weeks. I wish I understood what is causing all of the extra problems. Dr ellison is going to send her spinal fluid in for tests and maybe send her up to OHSU she does see the eye dr every week and he is the one that confirmed that her pressure is up and that is why the spinal tap. I am working on water very hard. today I am so tired. worked until till noon and spent the rest of the day at providence. I have a potatoe in the microwave going to smu**** and go to bed. Patty I so appreciate your friendship you rock Kel

I hear you, Kelly,on not being able to get enough water in. Im lucky to get in about 30 oz or so around there. I had a Laproscopic gastric bypass the 26th of January2007. so, am supposed to be in pureed foods now, but had a sick spell the other day, threw up again and again for up to five hours. It was miserable. I thought i would try a couple of bites of avacodoe. My stomach decided it didnt like it, so guess what? then yesterday, i ate too much of a pedialyte freezepop and got sick on that, so threw up a few times from that. so, here i am, back to liquids for a couple of days, to rest my stomach. Oh! this is so frustrating. but i have lost 48 pounds now, so that is good. I drink pedialyte in a one liter bottle diluted with more water and some ice. so that helps. Anyway, i hear you, on the water. Good Luck to ya! KathyS
